Need to be able to get controlled feedback in live settings

I am having trouble creating feedback from my guitar on stage. I need to be able to make the guitar feedback for some songs. How do you guys get controlled feedback out of your QCs?

Edit: I typically use IEMs with no onstage amp (my preference). But I do have a Fender FRFR cab and a home studio. Even when I’m recording with sound through my studio monitors or playing live with the FRFR I cannot consistently produce feedback. It’s like there’s a gate on the input that prevents the notes from blooming into feedback. But I have no gates in my signal chain.

First, what are you using on stage? Going direct into FOH? Using a power amp and cabinet?

How do you monitor your guitar? Which are you using (e.g FRFR speaker, stage monitors, poweramp etc.)?

I edited the main post to answer this since it’s the first question everyone is asking. It doesn’t matter what the configuration is; Studio monitors, FRFR cab, stage wedges + FRFR cab, direct into the FOH with IEMs or all of the above, I can’t get it to feedback consistently. Even if I’m standing with my guitar 6" in front of the speaker shaking the crap out of it, I can produce little to no feedback.

Thanks for your question. See above responses for answer.

Regarding gates, ensure your input block doesn’t have the gate enabled (long press on the input block). I would assume its due to the common requirements for feedback. Is the volume loud enough? Is there close enough proximity to the speaker? I’ve added compression in some cases to make controlled feedback easier. I’ve also seen others utilize a send to a smaller amp and cabinet which is easier to overdrive etc. I specifically utilize monitors and or FRFR/PA depending on the needs and usually need to tame my tone due to too much feedback. If adding some compression into your signal chain doesn’t work, worst case you can always use something like the Digitech FreqOut or modify your guitar with a Sustaniac pickup. Actually, what guitar and pickups are you using currently?

Thanks. I’ll check that out.
