Hello all. Wondering if any others have found the mac system sound controls (volume and pan) to be unresponsive (have no effect) when the nanocortex is plugged in? (short video below showing audio staying a constant volume while the control is adjusted).
I am discussing with support but unfortunately they can’t replicate the issue, so curious if happening for anyone else. With no seperate USB audio level control on the unit this would be very nice to have working…
It’s a pretty normal behavior that happens with most audio interfaces. As far as I know (I didn’t test all interfaces on the market), only Apogee offers this kind of deep MacOS integration. You can assign the native commands to the outputs of your choice.
This isn’t my experience, but to be fair currently only have 1 other usb interface to double check (system volume adjustment working perfectly with my old A&H usb mixer). I do recall seeing the volume “greyed out” in other units that have a seperate means of adjusting (eg via a physical control), but not this behaviour (a slider that slides but does nothing).
Either way was instructed by support that this is how the usb volume is supposed to be controlled (as documented in the nanocortex manual)
I totally agree with you about the manual’s content, but…
The Nano Cortex has separate volume controls for the main outputs and the headphone output. So I don’t really see how they could have done it differently, other than automatically assigning MacOS’s native volume controls to the main outputs.
Could there be an issue with the MacOS section of the manual? It’s just a theory. I’m not even sure I’m right.
But I figure if they could do this kind of assignment of native controls to hardware, then many others companies would have done it too. I’m curious to hear what support says (it’s in the QC feature requests, by the way).
