Just got the Nano and looking for more buttons (MIdi). I got the M-vave Chocolate, but got a bad one. Got me wondering if I should get something more reliable. I saw the a Behringer unit has two expression pedals (all-in-one MIDI pedalboard solution) and other units that use the pinned Midi port (as opposed to USB) would take up the TRS Midi port (so no spot for an expression pedal later). Trying to replace pedalboard with Nano as much as possible.
Does anyone recommend a way to use MIDI to replace a Wah and add buttons?
This is my first time dipping my toe into MIDI and Nano Cortex. Lots of good YouTube videos, but looking for suggestions/advice. Thanks!
I have Morningstar Engineering MC3 - it can do anything you can think off. If Neural will update NC with expanded MIDI capability, then it would be truly powerful combo.
Morningstar Mc or Luminite M1 or m2 are both very good and you can expand them with extra buttons and expression pedals. It becomes an all in one device and you get access to all the presets and fx blocks. I still hope for a good spring reverb and then I’m all set with a midi controller and just the NC.
As for the wah, I have a little mini way in front of the NC to not waste a precious fx block. When you switch presets, there is a very small gap, but when you just switch fx on and off then it’s gapless. So I use all the FX-Blocks, when I play live and just change Presets very rarely.
You can use a 5pin DIN to TRS midi connection to expand your options and if equipped on the midi device, connect your expression pedal through midi now that we have V2.1
there are a few midi switches out there with expression pedal pass through. Morningstar seems the most widely liked but also costs the most. The Gaviton caught my eye. I read the behringer has 3rd party firmwares expanding options but it was too much reading for me to go down the rabbit hole - cost can’t be beat on it
Personally I like to keep the usb port free for connecting to DAW or USB audio play back when noodling.
I can try to use the Luminite M1 with just the trs connection and an Expression Pedal. If you switch to expression pedal in the app and set it up, you can use it even when back in midi mode. So this should be no problem. I want the Usb c free, too, to record or play some jamtracks
In the Cortex app switch to epression pedal, set it to the parameter you want to control. Save it. Set it back to Midi and you can use your Expression paddle and footswitches all trough the TRS in and the Usbc is still free.
Thanks! Was wondering if I could do expression and channel switching through one TRS. Sounds like I just need a MIDI with a connection for an Expression pedal.
Eu nunca trabalhei com MIDI e estou querendo começar a testar. Você pode explicar como a Nano poderia ampliar as funções MIDI e o que exatamente espera?
Hi, by that I mean having option to control more functions/ fx parameters via midi. Either by defining and providing so called MIDI maps (list of Program Change and Control Change messages and their functions), like there is now for changing presets and turning on/off FX blocks, or by providing MIDI learn function, where you could set whatever parameter of NC to be controlled by whatever MIDI message you decide. That functionality with advanced midi controllers (like Morningstar engineering, Pirate midi..) which can send multiple midi messages per single button action (and they recognize multiple - short press, long press, double tap, etc..) would give you endless possibilities and options , for example you could turn and off different FX blocks, change FX parameter values, to sort of mimic scenes of bigger units with single button action on the midi controller
Thanks for the advice everyone! I got a Morningstar MC6 MKii off of Reverb and I am probably just scratching the surface of what it can do. I can switch banks now. I need to figure out how to turn effects on and off, but already worth it just to add 6 buttons!
Have to play around with it to see how to turn effects on and off, but the midi dictionary is a pretty cool feature that should make that easier.
