Midi control for live gigs

I recently purchased a midi controller which I hope to control my Nano C with while trying to emulate my old analog pedal board. I need some tips on how to set this up for live performances. My goal is to use just the NC with onboard captures, IR’s and FX with the midi controller and EXP pedal (mostly for vol. Swell). I will likely settle on just one amp then add fx as needed. Anyone got any good tips for a midi noob coming from the analog world? I’m thinking: one amp w. IR, with the ability to add eq, comp, verb, delay, drive etc. The midi controller should be able to handle all these commands. Should I build separate banks for each song, create a set list, assign switches to switch FX on off as needed? thanks

All controllers vary a bit, this is for the Morningstar but hopefully it will help:

I believe if you search YouTube you will find M-vave controller tutorials as well..

Yes

I bought the ampero midi controller and I can’t get my boss ev30 exp pedal to work at all. When I use it just switches the effect on/off. I know this is more an ampero issue but it’s so frustrating.

Do you use Exp/MIDI input for Ampero?
M-WAVE Chocolate uses the lightning/USB-C input to control Nano Cortex so you can use Expression pedal thru Exp/MIDI input and use lightning/USB-C input for M-Wave controller. It is like really cheap ( 20-30€ ? )
You could sell your Ampero and try M-WAVE Chocolate ? Maybe?

check out temu.com for the M-WAVE Chocolate controller.

okay, as i can see it’s possible to access all different stuff either over usb c or with usb c via a controller. does anyone know of a small controller that has a normal (trs or 5pin) INPUT that could be used to control the nano cortex via 5-pin/trs midi?

being able to use MIDI CC is important (doesnt work over trs on nano)

i think a lot of people would want to switch stuff from a laptop without using the usb-c (setting up the nano as midi controller)

EDIT: i found it! you should be able to control midi and everything by connecting the nano cortex to a kenton midi usb host see here on thomann and then a 5pin to the kenton IN, basically unlocking the nano cortex fully.

You can also connect to the midi/exp TRS using a DIN to TRS cable adapter.

I do all midi through the TRS without issue and that way the controller does not need to be capable of usb host midi.

Yes but controlling parameters (changing gain on a pedal or threshhold on noisegate) sadly is still not possible with the trs

Not sure I understand fully -

TLDR it is possible to map both midi and expression pedal through the TRS connection so long as the midi controller has expression pass through capability.

If the expression pedal can control the parameter, it is still possible to map the expression pedal to the parameter and then route the expression pedal through the midi controller.

This is possible with the Mvave chocolate plus, for example - You can use the TRS connector to either send MIDI out to the NC or receive expression pedal in.

“being able to use MIDI CC is important (doesnt work over trs on nano)”

Ive been banging my head trying to get my controller TRS out to turn Nano FX on and off. The controller I’m using has 4 TRS midi outs 1 - 5 pin input, 1 USB C midi In 2 - 5 pin midi outs, exp out .. I didnt realize the Nano TRS / Exp out doesnt transmit CC / Value data. Very frustrating!

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so I apologize in advance. I have a Nano Cortex and I use a Chocolate M-Wave MIDI controller to control effects like distortion and delay. I configured it following a YouTube video, so that pressing the footswitch once turns the effect on, and pressing it again turns it off. The problem is that if I turn on an effect and then switch to a different preset on the Nano Cortex using a footswitch, the M-Wave controller remembers that the effect was on. If I then press the footswitch to turn it on again, it actually turns it off; I have to press it twice. I have two questions: Is there a way to configure it so this doesn’t happen? And if not, is this something that happens with all MIDI footswitch controllers? I’m considering buying a different one to solve this problem. Thank you very much.

The issue would be from the NC not sending CC states to the controller when changing a preset.

You can send up to 12 different PC or CC messages per preset over usb.

not sure if the chocolate plus can recognize them
