More MIDI Implementation

I would love to see more MIDI implementation with the NC. The ability to use a MIDI controller and an expression pedal in conjunction with one another would be amazing. Also, a full CC message list is crucial. These relatively simple enhancements would make the NC such a powerful unit.

UPDATE
So, after some experimentation I’ve discovered that you can use a MIDI controller in conjunction with an expression pedal with the NC (as long as the MIDI controller has a USBC input such as the Morningstar MC6 Pro). Simply connect the NC’s USBC out to the controller and then connect the NC’s EXP/MIDI input to the expression pedal (TRS cable). It works flawlessly and I’m now extremely satisfied with the NC. I hope this information is helpful.

Totally agree! For instance, I am using an AMPERO CONTROL midi switch with the NC but currently only for Program Changes (PC). Would love to have the ability to implement Control Change (CC) so that I could connect an expression pedal through the MIDI controller, so that the EXP pedal could have a different assignment for every preset - that would be a nice addition to the NC, and should be simple since they already have MIDI…

At the very least we should be able to Bypass/Engage the 5 effect slots via midi.

For anyone doing the same - MIDI in through the USB, and Expression in the TRS port, please be aware that the MIDI controller should support host mode. If you have a MIDI controller which does not have host mode, all is not lost. I have used a CME H2MIDI PRO which sits between the MIDI controller and the NC.

Many users here talk about using the M-Vave Chocolate. The Chocolate does not support host mode - however there is a Chocolate Plus which does.

I have not personally checked out the Chocolate Plus, but I assume that it will preclude the need for an external host.

I use my MIDI controller in the USB port for preset select. I use the expression (Dunlop X Mini DVP4 ) in the TRS port for FX parameter change and on / off.

The m vave chocolate support midi control by USB you only need the USB midi vave and you can change preset with USB midi and pedal exp by trs.

A complete NC bypass with a MIDI command would be useful.

It would be nice to add a second CC for another expression pedal to control another parameter.

It would also be nice if we would have more CC commands options, like

  • toggling Expression Pedal Bypass options. (Switch, Heal-Toe, Stop)
  • Tweaking effect functions: like reverb/delay Feedback and mix. Currently this is only possible if you set up a new Preset.
  • Toggling with CC what effects the expression pedal touches.

It would be nice to be able to select the capture and IR slots with their own CC commands. For example: CC#35 could be renamed to Capture select. Use 0 for bypass and 1-25 to select captures?

Same thing for CC#36. Maybe rename it to IR select and use 0 be bypass and 1-5 to select IRs.

I’m trying to make a “channel switch” button on my MC6Pro like an amp footswitch. Having the captures assigned to CC numbers or a value would allow me to leave the state of my effects on/off dynamically while allowing me to change to a different amp sound. The current workaround is to make duplicate presets, but the on/off state of each effect resets when changing back and forth between presets.

It might make more sense to have the captures assigned to their own CC# but I could think of some interesting applications if it was mapped to a rotary knob.

You could go even further and have the cab sim midi controlled. The point is there are features that aren’t midi controlled and CC numbers that could be used for something.

I wish they’d add either midi learn functionality and allow you to define your own CC numbers to various functions or they’ll provide MIDI map for controlling parameters of blocks inside Nano . That + some advanced midi controller would make for a killer/versatile rig and would allow to mimic behaviour similar to scenes
