I am an also a Line 6 Helix User. The one place where I believe that the Line 6 Helix has the Quad Cortex beat is that the Line 6 Helix has more high quality amp models and cab models than the Quad Cortex. I think that the Fortin Nameless and Gojira plugins are the best amp models that I have on my Quad Cortex but I had to buy those plugins separately. The Helix has quality amp models like that for free. The Mesa Rectifier models are not great on the Quad Cortex either. The Orange PPC212 cab is one of the most sought after cabs on the planet and there is not a cab model of it on here. I did find a PPC212 on the cloud but it’s not that great. I am not really a fan of the captures. It’s not the unit. I had the same problem with the ToneX. You have to weed through countless captures to find a good one. That’s not Neural DSP’s fault. The technology is there but some of the captures are not done well. We just need more of a variety and better amp models on the Quad Cortex.
I completely agree. This is why I bought the unit. Too old to lug an amp to two bit gigs and rehearsals.
Here’s my wish list… (Amps only)
- Marshall JTM50
- Marshall 1974
- Marshall Astoria
- Fender Supersonic
- Bogner SLP Goldfinger
- Dumble ODS
- Trainwreck Express
- Friedman Dirty Shirley
- Toneking Royalst II
- Magnatone M80
I think the captures are great but yeah I end up going back to the amp models because I like twisting knobs and having it react on the fly I guess
one thing I would like on the cab block in particular is more dramatic changes with mics and mic positioning they don’t seem to change much to my ears and I think the pros that made the factory presets agree as they mostly all leave the mics and positions in the default position as well.
Coming from Helix (back in 2018) and Fractal Audio FM9 (2023 until now), I am surprised at the number of amp models in the QC. I would suspect there would be more. I saw the Rick Beato video where Doug showcased the thing they built to basically turn the knobs and do the whole modelling capture thing they do with amp heads… since that rig is built, why are they not trying to basically model as many amps as humanly possible?
This is where I am slightly confused by the design philosophy of NDSP; they do modelling, but they also provide capture tech… so… it sort of blurs the lines a bit… If you can just let people capture their amps, why even bother with modelling at all?
I dunno… I guess I am just a little bit confused! Why not get a hold of some cool sought after amp heads, do the whole rig knob twisty thing, and get 'em in the QC!
it’s a bit of a mystery. We’re all wondering why there hasn’t been an explosion of new gear resulting from TINA, but I suspect it’s been working all along on all the devices in the recent plugins.
That said, we recently got the Dumble so they are gradually adding new amps. Also, though- note that the newer tech is resulting in blocks that require MUCH more DSP power so they definitely come with a price.
Gotcha. I may be an outlier as I didn’t come to QC via the plugins - I don’t have a single one. I hope they just add new Amp models with TINA ![]()
Same here, I bought the unit for the amp models that were created with TINA. Searching for captures is time consuming to find a real good one even from creators. With amp modelers I can shape the sound the way I want and they sound amazing to my ears, but i need more amps and drives too.
