Turn up the gain and turn down output volume at the same time with the same expression pedal on a drive/distortion block (for example)…
This would maintain unity output volume.
I think that would be sweet !
You can already do it. 
Just set the MIN RANGE to be larger than the MAX RANGE and you are done.
