I want to expand the amount of inputs and outputs of my QC and was wondering if this was possible by connecting an external audio interface to it through USB so I can still route the signals separately using the USB inputs/outputs - all without using a computer/separate DAW.
And if so, would this introduce any type of noticeable latency?
Any advice or input on this would be very much appreciated.
Cheers!
Long answer: I can’t even imagine how you’d do this; especially if you want to route things independently, nor can I imagine how bad the latency would be (and I also have no idea how you’d do this without a sparate computer/DAW). You might be better off maybe having a couple 4-to-8-channel mixers; each one going to one or a pair of inputs; but then you’ll have gain-staging issues. Your best bet would be to maybe get a second QC.
AFAIK there’s no way to expand the QC inputs anyways since it isn’t designed for that and doesn’t have any sort of ADAT expansion. I’ve seen a few people try to do extra stuff on it just from seeing it has a USB port, but there isn’t any routing/software/hardware connection inside the unit to facilitate running an interface, etc.
