Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone has managed to find a way to get rid of the latency whilst changing between scenes with a midi switcher? (Boss Es-8). I understand that you can use it with stomp box mode without latency, but surely you should be able to change between scenes without any latency!? Cheers Andy
Hmm… I don’t get any gap between scenes using midi. Presets yes there is a gap to load the preset but for scenes there is not. Make sure each switch for the scenes you’re not also sending a PC message for the preset number, just send the CC message for the switch to the proper scene.
If you do a preset per song, I send a PC message for the preset (small gap for loading preset) that calls up the first sound for that song ie. intro riff. Then switch to verse, chorus, bridge, solo (no gap for these) make sure no pc message on those buttons, just the CC to switch scenes.
But if you want to go back to the intro riff sound (that reloads the preset) there is a gap so sometimes I will duplicate that sound to a second scene to be able to switch back to it without a gap
There are also some amp models where swichting the amp channel will cause a gap. In this case you need to duplicate the amp block and use one for each scene.
Ah yes that’s exactly it, thanks. I did try this before but stupidly turned of the channel number as well as the PC. Thanks again for the help!
Hey, thank you so much for the answer! But I don’t understand what you meant…
I’m new here and I bougth a brand new QC mini and i’m issuing some delay during stomp/scene footswitch changes. ![]()
There is no delay or gap when switching scenes normally. But there are a few amp models which cause a gap when you change a mode switch in the amp from one scene to another. In this case, to avoid the gap, you would need to use two amp blocks and switch between those.
Do you have a gap when switching scenes? If yes, maybe you can share your preset, then it’s easier to explain what I mean
Thank you for your reply!
Here is the simple preset
Strange, I cannot open your preset. Main point would be: which amp model do you use and do you flick any switch in the amp model between scenes?
I’m using two amp mode:
-
Plini Lead associated with footswitch D
-
Plini Clean associated with footswitch C
When I press D Plini Leadis engaged, and when I press C Plini Lead is bypassed and Plini Clean is Engaged.
The person above is asking if you’re switching modes within an amp model during the scene changes. For example some amp models have a switch within them for “clean” and “crunch”. Not talking about switching between separate amp model blocks though.
Is there any chance you have a certain setting enabled on your midi footswitch? It’s possible you have it sending the midi signal when you lift your foot back up, instead of right when you press down on the switch.
Or is there any mode on the midi footswitch that delays the signal being sent. Some allow you to have a certain ms of time where the switch has to be engaged.
This is most likely something caused by settings on your midi footswitch, or an error in how you set up the preset
Thank you! I have discovered that the scenes and the stomp are triggered instantaneously upon releasing the footswitch. Is it possible to change the footswitch behaviour settings? For example, to change scenes when the footswitch is pressed and not when its released?
Which midi footswitch do you have? That would be a setting within the software of your midi footswitch and not the QC
Aaah now I understand correctly. Sorry, I thought you had an audio gap in the switching.
The switching behavior (when pressing or releasing) can be set in the ES-8.
