Whenever I’m editing the parameters of a block in the grid and the changes have an effect on the overall output level, it’s hard to tell how big the difference is.
For example, if I’m editing the parameters of an amp, Cortex Control will look like this:
If I then change gain or volume, it will have an impact on the overall output level. But I can’t tell right away, I first have to select the output block on the right hand side in order to see the resulting level:
I often don’t want to mess with the output level and it would also be more convenient to just compensate output level from within an amp block directly. As it is now, I have to switch back and forth between amp settings and the output settings, which is annoying imho.
Suggestion:
If there was a global output level meter always visible somewhere in Cortex Control, it would enable you to stay in the amp block while making changes and compensate level inside the amp block right away, without the need to switch to the output settings.
Here’s a mockup of how I’d imagine it to look like.
I’m editing amp settings and I can see right away how it will effect the overall output level.
There are probably more questions that need addressing, but we can use this topic to refine the propoal.
Questions I currently see:
- The level of which output(s) exactly is shown?
- Shall users be able to select which level they want to see?
- Stereo/mono display
