I’m a new user, but I think I did my homework right to ask to allow the minimum input gain to start from -infinite (or whatever you need to have zero signal) and not from -24dB.
I know this is thought as a GAIN and not as a volume control, but this option would allow to setup an expression pedal to work on all QC presets and not having to set it up one by one, which would be tremendously useful, at least for me.
Thank you
Maybe I’m missing something here, but I don’t think it would.
You’d still have to assign the expression pedal for each preset. Also presets can use different inputs on different (and multiple) rows, so this might be difficult to implement as a global setting.
The -Infinte part would still be nice to have, but personally I’ve never had a preset where I didn’t have place for a volume block to handle this.
yes, if instead of -24dB you had the option go down to no signal it would. You may have a single pedal controlling the input of your QC, wouldn’t it be easier and quicker than creating a volume block for each single preset?
You can test it by yourself by assigning an expression pedal to such parameter and see what it happens when scrolling through different presets.
Just tried it and assigned Exp1 to the input gain on the first input block. I changed the preset and the expression pedal assignment wasn’t there.
So you’d have to assign it again on every preset, which doesn’t seem much easier and quicker than adding a block.
Additionally, what I didn’t know and also just found out is, that you can set up a volume block with expression pedal assignment and then “Set parameter as defaults”. Now every time you add the volume block to a preset, the expression pedal is already assigned.
This seems much easier and still retains the flexibility if you have different/multiple input rows. Just insert a preconfigured volume block and you’re done. (with Cortex Control you could even do it quickly fow many presets with copy&paste)
Again I’m not here to talk down your feature request or anything.
I was just curious if there was a “global expression pedal” assignment that I was missing.
thank you derdoe, this is a very useful insight.
Will certainly adopt your solution, which makes sense since the existing limitations.
However I would suggest developers to take into consideration adding the possibility to set a general input volume control, which exists in many cheaper QC colleagues.
Instead of starting a new preset by using the QC “add new”, not at my QC so don’t remember exactly what it is, create a “Default” profile and save it with the volume block, and any other default you might want, and then start any new preset from there. I have a Tascam 32 track recorder with LOTS of initial options and setups which don’t necessarily get changed back to a default when you start a new project. Got the tip from a YouTube guy to create your “Known State” default save and always start from there so you don’t have to track down some setting because something is not recording or playing back and to get back to your “known state”.
