And even more perplexing when their plugins have some of the best pitch shifting ANYWHERE.
It can’t be monophonic. If it transposes more than one note at a time then by definition it is polyphonic. . It is the pitch detection part of the algorithm that determines whether it is monophonic or polyphonic. Any pitch shifter that can transpose a chord or a diad is not monophonic, it simply couldn’t do it. Monophonic pitch shifters sound awful when playing chords etc. because they can’t track more than one note at a time and effectively ‘switch’ between the different notes being played. The pitch correction on the quad cortex on the other hand is definitely monophonic. I can only assume that’s where the confusion arises.
It is ‘advertised’ as monophonic, but sometimes it works with chords. They don’t advertise it as polyphonic, because sometimes it doesn’t work with chords.
They’re not saying it is only monophonic, just that they can’t really guarantee it will handle polyphony in a stable fashion all the time.

They will explain that they do not consider the algorithm polyphonic. I was told “it functions differently,” but they won’t say how.
Official NDSP reps have publicly affirmed this, as referenced above.
Regardless of the literal semantics and nomenclature, it is not considered a polyphonic algo
Welp, I got my unit last night and used it for rehearsal (going in blind). Found the first bass preset, swapped out the volume block with a Pitch Shifter block (didn’t have a chance to update to 3.0.0 between work and practice), and used it all night. It was absolutely WONDERFUL. It’s probably the best-feeling pitch shifter I’ve ever used. It felt immediate (near zero latency) and I couldn’t detect ANY artifacts (i usually only pitch down a half step, so I didn’t really test it that hard). That said, I’m sure the Transpose block in 3.0.0 will be as good or better, and even if not, the pitch block is just fine.
I’m VERY impressed.
Awesome! Glad to hear it.
Not sure if it’s technically mono or poly (sounds like monophonic from what other people are saying), but I use it to tune my bass a whole-step down for some of my band’s songs live and so far it’s the only pitch shifting/transpose effect I’ve found that actually tracks well enough to be used on bass in a live setting. Not perfect, but still miles better than most others I’ve tried. It can get a little muddy, but EQ can clean that up a bit. We have bass chords in a few songs and I’ve never had tracking issues.
Did you get the parallax x though? You were asking about this earlier.
I did. Can’t wait until it’s ported to the QC!
Yeah, Fractal stuff is good for OD guitars, but it just can’t do cleans or bass. The HX stuff is good; I’ve just been using Simple Pitch but many swear by the Poly Capo. Either way, the QC is just excellent for my needs.
Don’t forget the iLOK license that was the only thing I struggled with because I’m new to plug ins. I wasn’t even going to take the free gift. I can’t remember if I said this on here before or not. But I really liked them. I can’t wait for the others to be ready. Anyway, good luck and enjoy it.
I don’t play bass and haven’t used those fx but I think you’ll like it a lot.
I have a DigiTech Whammy & Pitch Shifter that I think works better than anything else I’ve used yet. I do use the transpose from the QC for a couple presets… but it doesn’t seem to work well with high-gain/distorted tones.
Oh yeah, I’ve got about 6 of the plugins at this point; I chose the Asato as my gift since I already own the bass ones. Yeah, the iLok thing is annoying, but not too bad - totally worth it for the product, though. These days, I basically leave my modeler in the bag for gigs and rehearsal and practice at home nearly 100% on my NDSP plugins
So you can import any of the plug ins because you already owned them? I can only import the ones with an X but I’ll get maybe Rabea and tone king I’m not sure when they update them to X. Anyway, enjoy your quad and plug ins.
Well, you can import the ones you own that are available for the QC. Right now, it’s just Plini and Gojira. couple more should be added in a couple months.
Example: I can use Plini X on the QC because I own it AND it’s available for the QC. I cannot use Gojira even through it’s available for the QC because I don’t own it. I cannot use Mateus Asato on the QC even though I own it because it doesn’t even have an X version yet (so still a further step away from QC availability).
It’ll probably take a year or two before they all get the “X treatment” and are available in the QC.
Not sure if you’re a troll or not. You would pay nearly $2k for a pitch shifting effect or some minor functionality added? Mkay.
Why in the absolute f would that make me a troll? Maybe I’m just someone with financial discipline enough to be able to afford to splurge every now and again on music gear; and why not splurge on a piece of gear that will reduce my pedalboard footprint by half by using a single unit that does everything, rather than patching together several random pedals to get my preferred tone and functionality? You really need to take that “troll” talk elsewhere. It doesn’t belong in this forum, which has, until your comment, been a relative bastion from the usual gear forum bickering.
(All said and done, however, I could get away with JUST using the HX Stomp for bass live, and thereby reducing my rig by half again, but I do enjoy the aestheitcs of the QC and with the Stomp, I need to have multiple presets due to the limited number of snapshots available, whereas with the QC, everything comfortably fits on one preset. Also, no more having to squint down at the Stomp to see if a pitch shifter is on for the song)
Maybe I misunderstood your post. My sincere apologies. Good luck w the hunt.
No hard feelings - just kinda caught me off guard. I can definitely see that if you phrase it like you did (spending 2k basically for just a pitch shifter), it does venrure into the absurd
