Expression/Swells

Does anybody have any problems doing swells with a expression pedal? I’ve been trying to set up my presets to do swells with my Hotone press 2, but it goes from 0-100 when I go back down I don’t have any trails. I turned on the trails on the reverbs and delays, recalibrated the pedal, etc. Does anybody knows what can I be missing? I’m using the volumen block

Is the volume block before or after the effects?

At the moment after the drives, but I’ve tried moving it at the beginning of the chain and at the end and nothing happens

You should get trails if the volume block is after the drives and before the delays/reverbs. I would recommend doing the volume after the drives, since the drives will pull up your level kinda weird since they’re sorta compressing the sound a little themselves. It can work before the drives, but is a different sound that might not be as precise.

Have you tried a longer decay for the effects? I feel like this is the reason why you aren’t hearing it after you reduce the volume. You need a lot more decay to the sound than you may think, because the reverb and delays will have to be at at least a few seconds long for you to notice them after the volume is lower.

The trails don’t have anything to do with what you’re doing. The trails function is just for when you’re changing scenes/adjusting the blocks on and off. Trails doesn’t mean you literally get trails on the signal. It’s trails of the effect if your turn it off, instead of the decay shutting off with it.

as STLP says above, you’re technically only dealing with trails when you switch scenes and a wet effect turns off.

If it’s just a matter of your repeats/decay fading too quickly, try increasing the mix level, feedback settings, and putting a compressor after the delay/verb. A stereo compressor can ‘elongate’ the repeats as they fade and make them more noticeable. It’s an old studio ‘glue’ trick that makes the wet fx decay more present in the mix

I also did that and nothing. I think I may have to take the expression out and get a volume pedal

I’ll try de compresor . I already checked and I have the mix and decays where they should be. I’ve been working with an ambient scene and it still don’t work. Haven’t tried yet the compresor

Are you sure the expression pedal isn’t assigned to anything else? Also you could test the theory about using a volume pedal before the QC but just doing swells with your volume knob.

There isn’t a gate after the reverb/delay, right?

With the expresión pedal on I’ve done the swells with the volume knob of the guitar and they work. And for what I understand, the pedal is not assigned to anything else.

Ok maybe this can give you an answer to help me :joy:. I had to assign the expression to the main out to get it to work and I guess that’s what’s cutting my swells. Got on my computer right now and remember that. For some reason the volume block alone didn’t work

Ok for some reason when I put the expression on heel position is like it’s controlling gain or something. It does not go out all the way. And yes I have the volume block not the gain. And I’ve also tried using the gain block and nothing

Putting the XP on the Output Block will definitely kill your repeats and decay.

Have you calibrated the XPedal? Swipe down for the I/O menu and click on the XP jack you’re connected to - then run the calibration process. This should help if the pedal isn’t reading the full range of the treadle.

A volume pedal should always come before your wet fx if you want to retain those decay/repeats.

start with a fresh preset - sounds like something is assigned that shouldn’t be assigned (or vice versa).

I made this template preset specifically for the Hotone Press II XP to demonstrate all the different ways XP control can be configured on the QC. If you’d like to try it, it can at least test that your pedal is configured and functioning correctly, then you could use those settings in other presets:

I did that and it worked. Thanks. I don’t know what it was but he’s something was wrongly assigned. Had to create everything that I was using again :sob::joy::raising_hands:t2:
