Expression Pedal for QC

Recalibrating after turning down the volume knob of the pedal to zero and you get only 5 to 10. % lost run. But it s still an issue

Like everyone else, I always thought that Boss products were very good, until I discovered that their expression pedals are not. I have opened them up to see if they can be adjusted, but it is not possible. It is just poor engineering. You would expect better from Boss, but it is what it is. My work around is to fix a pad under the heel end of the pedal, so that the travel stops when the calibration reaches zero. You get less pedal travel, but all of it is consistent.
Two previous threads cover this issue, and confirm that other users experience the same problem.

I wish I knew all this before I ordered it. I’m sure users have complained to Boss in the past about this and they haven’t corrected it in their new production?

I haven’t seen anything to say that the design has been modified, but I haven’t been looking. The earlier threads have been there for some time, and a search would have flagged up the potential problem. As I suggested, I would check it carefully when it arrives. You may be lucky. If not, send it back.

+1 for Hotone Press and Soul Press

I really wanted to go with the Soul Press II because of the extra wah/volume functionality, plus it looks cool  Unfortunately, the toe switch only controls the built-in wah/volume functions and is not accessible externally. The Soul Press II can still work great as an expression pedal with the QC, but if you want the toe switch, the Ampero II Press is the one.

I’ve been through lots of trial and error with the various Hotone pedals; first thing is I want it to be battery powered, I don’t want mains powered, so that rules out the Tuner Press)
I tried the Ampero II Press, however in the end I ruled this out as well because I found it didn’t really work with the QC that well; it’s been a while so I can’t remember the full details, but the problem for me was something like the footswitch on the pedal can obviously only be operated at the full toe down position. So while you can use it to switch between two different functions on the QC (for example it could be assigned to increase amp gain on one setting, then switch to increase delay level on the other setting) the problem is if you’re on the amp gain setting, you can only switch to the delay level one by increasing the amp gain - or in other words you can’t switch to another setting without going all the way to max in the setting you’re currently on.
Plus the switch still takes up on of the other Exp Pedal inputs on the QC…

That is correct, you can only activate the toe switch by moving the pedal to the full toe-down position and pressing. That is pretty much how all expressions pedals of this type work, including the QC-specific pedal from Mission Engineering. One typical setup is to switch between wah and volume; in that case it’s not a problem to move the pedal to activate the switch and it’s convenient to have everything combined. However, if you are trying to control other parameters (e.g., amp gain) you may not want that behavior. In those cases, you can choose not to use the toe switch.

If you think you would never want a toe switch, there are simple boxes that separate out the switch functionality. You could also connect two expression pedals (with no switches) and use the alternate QC mechanisms (stop detection, heel/toe detection) instead to activate effects.

I just got the Dunlop Volume X Mini Pedal DVP4, works straight out of the box.
I’ve already had a TRS cable from my previous Fractal pedal.

I’m waiting for a mission expression to arrive… I have been using an old Rocktron Hex, but it is mostly unusable as it has a logarithmic pot. It goes from 0 to ~70% in about 30% travel, making it a very strange wah…
It would be great if there were additional calibration features to make sure the pedals behave as we need them too…

Dunlop mini X for one, simple on/off switch for the other. I built a box to act the same as the toe switch on the Mission E QC expression pedal.

I have it set most of the time to go from
Slap back to longer delays.

I’ve used Boss pedals with some success. As a previous poster mentioned they do have some dead zones at top and bottom. You can adjust for that to an extend in the QC, but it still bothered me enough to switch to a Lehle expression pedal. Expensive but good piece of kit.

Just received my Mission Engineering. Works flawlessly.

I’m using the M-Audio expression pedal. It’s just 15€ and works flawlessly since 2 year.
