Eventide H9 tone suck in Quad Cortex fx loop

I’ve been running my Eventide H9 Max in my Quad Cortex’s stereo loop for a long while. I’ve recently noticed that there’s some serious tone suckage in comparison to when the loop is bypassed, even with the H9 bypassed. It’s marginally better in relay bypass mode on the H9, but I am not willing to lose trails on my verbs. I’ve considered parting with the H9 and replacing it with something else, maybe even the H90, but if this is more of a quad cortex fx loop issue than an H9 issue, I won’t bother. Anybody having good results with anything similar in the loop? QC is really solid on its own, but I like the idea of saving some dsp and having more effects options, hence my H9 integration.

Are you reducing the Send level in the QC FX Loop block? It’s recommended to do so (start with -5dB and earball it from there)

I tried messing with the send and return levels, but I don’t remember specifics. Will give that a try! Wish the H9 had adjustable inputs like the other factor pedals. Feel like the H9 is best in front of an amplifier.

Similar experience. I solved it by connecting the H9 before the Quad Cortex

Yeah it seems to be better before the Quad Cortex, but my main use for the H9 is wet effects. Thinking an H90 would better serve my purposes, but $$$ lol.

You have level controls on the H9 in the editor

I don’t think it is (imo). I would suggest trying the h90 out before you take the plunge $$$. The qc and h90 were made for each other, but I exclusively use it (h90) in kill dry in parallel for fx. Mind you, when in series or direct (i/o) I feel guitar sounds better than bass through the h90, but it does take away tone, primarily the meat from the potato soup. It would be disappointing if it was a standalone unit for me.

With kill dry enabled on the h9, try utilizing a splitter on the QC, dry for A & wet for B. Using A/B or balance mode for split, mix to taste. The kill dry prevents, mostly, phase issues from dual channels.

Overall, i think both units are excellent when utilized in a pleasing way. The h90 has some of the best chorus/reverbs and the control editor is amazing (parameter assignment - to pedal button or midi). The Qc/H90 combo is awesome, but in parallel and in kill dry. Years later, (qc) my tone is the best its ever been!!!

Thanks for that! This is an excellent explanation of how to set up a signal chain for success. It should be considered required reading for most people setting up a pedal board or placing effects in an effects loop.
