CorOS 3.2.0 and Cortex Control 1.3.0 are now available!

Got to spend some time with my QC this evening after updating to 3.2.0. I should mention that I have owned all of the plug-ins in this update for a while. My thoughts:

Cory Wong plug-in was an excellent choice for PCOM port, ahead of some of the others. The clean tones are all there in the D.I. Funk Console and The Clean Machine blocks. If you want to put other audio sources through your QC like a synth or vocals, consider using the Funk Console because it’s basically modeled after a recording console channel strip.

The Cory Wong Amp Snob block has a switch for Drive on/off; there’s a note in there that says there’s a brief mute when you switch it. This is much like the behavior of the channel switching in the Soldano SLO-100 plug-in. The QC will let you assign this switch to Scenes, but just beware of the dropout. That said, the Amp Snob can get really dirty, especially when you stack some drives in front. It’s a lot of fun.

Nolly. Those distortion tones are untouchable. The amp models felt unusually LOUD when I loaded them onto the grid, especially the Lead and Rhythm amps. But maybe it’s just because of all that high-end being pushed through and I was trying to keep my volume down this late at night. The Nolly Graphic-9 block has “Nolly’s Mod” which shifts some of the frequencies–if you’re curious, he talks about this in a walkthrough video he made around the release of Nolly X.

Parallax X surprisingly looks a lot like the actual plug-in, with the plug-in’s cab and EQ controls inside of the Parallax block itself. Need to spend some more time with it while plugging my QC into my desk monitors (rather than my guitar power amp + cab), but so far it sounds just the same as the plug-in. Bassists rejoice.

The metronome is a great addition. Well laid out, lots of sounds available, and more time signatures available than anyone would reasonably ever need.

Sidechain devices having the “follow input” option is a nice touch. And it’s nice to have an extra symbol added to the grid to show where the sidechain input is pulling from.

I don’t use Gig View, and I only tune when muted, but I checked out the new live tuner… It’s a bar at the top of the screen that moves left and right, and turns green when you’re in tune. But it doesn’t tell you the note that it thinks you’re tuning to, nor the frequency… I don’t need this feature, but If you were holding out for it, it’s a bit of a letdown. Someone in this forum is going to wind up making a feature request to add note and frequency info to the live tuner.

I hope this helps.

I was very critical in the past weeks because of the delays but I am actually very happy with the update. I don’t own Cory Wong or Nolly, but I still think it’s a nice update with the metronome, looper improvements, LEDs, tuner, etc. I don’t think the tuner not showing the notes is a problem, it’s there to let you quickly check your tuning without changing views. If you would like to detune or anything you go to tuner mode.

Some of the features were high on the feature request list, so for me personally this update has now increased my confidence in NDSP commitment to the QC.

Shortcut to the effect settings in the Stomp mode is a nice feature, but from there you can’t go back directly to the Stomp mode you’re thrown into the Grid view. That’s bit annoying : (

I might just be stupid but the looper update seems buggy. The number of bars to record doesn’t seem to be bars but beats. If I set my metronome to 100 with a quarter note division and set looper recording to 4 bars, it only records for the duration of one accented click and 3 lighter clicks (i.e. 1 bar, 4 beats). Anyone else experiencing this? I was really excited for this part of the update since the “wait for signal” version didn’t allow me to get the terminal bleed into the loop start, in the case of delays and reverbs, but only being able to do 32 “bars” when a bar is just a beat is pretty lame.

The Metronom is so near a little drum computer. I used the drum kit with base and snare. If I could program it a bit more and have a little swing button, this would be absolutely phenomenal. Just led me add snare or basdrum hits on the subdivisions or in between please

Came quicker than lastly expected.

But i’m not happy about this issue, which seems like it has not been fixed:

(i experienced it in 3.1 and will not update. i’ll have a gig tomorrow an have to send it back to thomann for “repair”)

Are you sure that it isn’t a hardware defect? Because if it is it can’t be fixed with a software update.

Love the metronome and Cory Wong!

I noticed the looper now has more lag when changing presets. Let me explain: in the past, if you set “out 1/2” on the looper, you wouldn’t have any lag when switching between presets.
Since this update, I’ve been hearing a brief lag. Is it just me?

Its better than I expected. the features added are useful day to day.

Always amazed at the “I won’t update it myself, but answer all of my questions” group. Silly. Update it and try it for yourself.

This now may officially be the group that complains the most. NDSP hasn’t stopped updating it, so they haven’t broken their promises for free updates, and oh yeah, this is a free update.

I haven;t seen any issues with it. Mine loads the same as always. I don’t have plugins, so it doesn’t affect me. But if they ever go on sale again, it will.

The live tuner is handy for a quick tweak. Not gonna work for changing tunings live. They could add the note somewhere.

Not a fancy update, but its good.

I‘m pretty sure it‘s a hardware defect, but i was hoping for a software bug tbh

Would have been easier than shipping it waiting for repair etc

it’s risky updating something like the Quad if you don’t know what bugs are in it yet. There have been an updates for the Quad or Helix that have had some pretty gnarly bugs that affect things I use, and if I had updated it would have been hard to play shows with. There isn’t any way to downgrade the software update if randomly the update has a bad bug. It’s just the nature of digital products getting updates.

Understandable.

Don’t forget this important feature; ‘The power function previously labeled ‘STANDBY’ has been renamed to ‘BE RIGHT BACK’.

Hmmm, I always backup my QC to both the cloud and locally prior to upgrading and have assumed that if there was ever a need, I could simply load the backup to downgrade to the previous CorOS version. Is that not the case?

The backup of the QC has nothing to do with the OS. Installing a backup for the unit doesn’t change the OS at all. It’s just your presets and various settings, etc for it.

I see why you’d think it was like that, but it would be super inconvenient for anyone who wanted to restore settings from a backup….then the unit would be on a random older OS…and then need to update the unit to the current OS anytime they do that

I’ll consent that it’s pretty awesome that THREE plugins are now compatible. But I don’t own them, so the update does extremely little for me, which is really disappointing. I wish NDSP would consider pulling SOME devices from the plugins to be free for all users.

It’s wild especially since they still have a bunch of effects they advertised for the Quad that still aren’t on it. Once again, I love the QC, but definitely need to be critical of Neural for not fully delivering the product they advertised

This^^^ yes!

I was hoping with this update they would give us a dumble inspired amp for all QC users… now I’m trying hard not to buy Cory Wong at full price…eek (not that I need it but I really wanna try it out)

I think next update they will have to give us at least a generic synth block when they release RabeaX on QC.

Im happy with the update, I bought the Nolly plugin last Xmas out of interest to use on the qc although I am already happy with the sounds I got. I am mainly using the qc with the 2203 model on stage and I had some time today to compare it to the Nolly crunch amp at similar (relatively low gain) settings. Must say, although it is close, the Nolly amp sounds seems richer, especially at top end. Though I doubt the audience will hear any difference haha.

Dim LEDs are a good addition too for those dark stages though I did not look at those settings yet.

Is there any bug OR do I miss something? Before the metronome update, after having tapped to tempo to set the tempo, it was possible to return to gig view immediately on tapping any of the switches from A to H without waiting QC to automatically quit tempo page. Tonight at a gig, when I tried to set tempo with tap tempo switch, the metronome and tempo screen appeared. After a few seconds it returned to gig view as expected. However, when I tried to quickly return by pressing on any switch, nothing happened, and also the screen remained there without returning to gig view. Is there any setting for that? Or did NDSP overlook this feature while providing us a metronome?
