Got to spend some time with my QC this evening after updating to 3.2.0. I should mention that I have owned all of the plug-ins in this update for a while. My thoughts:
Cory Wong plug-in was an excellent choice for PCOM port, ahead of some of the others. The clean tones are all there in the D.I. Funk Console and The Clean Machine blocks. If you want to put other audio sources through your QC like a synth or vocals, consider using the Funk Console because it’s basically modeled after a recording console channel strip.
The Cory Wong Amp Snob block has a switch for Drive on/off; there’s a note in there that says there’s a brief mute when you switch it. This is much like the behavior of the channel switching in the Soldano SLO-100 plug-in. The QC will let you assign this switch to Scenes, but just beware of the dropout. That said, the Amp Snob can get really dirty, especially when you stack some drives in front. It’s a lot of fun.
Nolly. Those distortion tones are untouchable. The amp models felt unusually LOUD when I loaded them onto the grid, especially the Lead and Rhythm amps. But maybe it’s just because of all that high-end being pushed through and I was trying to keep my volume down this late at night. The Nolly Graphic-9 block has “Nolly’s Mod” which shifts some of the frequencies–if you’re curious, he talks about this in a walkthrough video he made around the release of Nolly X.
Parallax X surprisingly looks a lot like the actual plug-in, with the plug-in’s cab and EQ controls inside of the Parallax block itself. Need to spend some more time with it while plugging my QC into my desk monitors (rather than my guitar power amp + cab), but so far it sounds just the same as the plug-in. Bassists rejoice.
The metronome is a great addition. Well laid out, lots of sounds available, and more time signatures available than anyone would reasonably ever need.
Sidechain devices having the “follow input” option is a nice touch. And it’s nice to have an extra symbol added to the grid to show where the sidechain input is pulling from.
I don’t use Gig View, and I only tune when muted, but I checked out the new live tuner… It’s a bar at the top of the screen that moves left and right, and turns green when you’re in tune. But it doesn’t tell you the note that it thinks you’re tuning to, nor the frequency… I don’t need this feature, but If you were holding out for it, it’s a bit of a letdown. Someone in this forum is going to wind up making a feature request to add note and frequency info to the live tuner.
I hope this helps.
