Cab Captures

There is probably a simple answer for this. What is the use case for cab captures on the Nano? Is the idea to use a cab capture when you’re using pedals in front of the Nano? Are there more use cases?

signal flow would be something like: Physical Pedals > Nano Cortex (cab capture) > FOH

It probably wouldn’t be possible but it would be great to see a cabinet block one day. So you’d be able to use an amp capture with a cab capture.

Some people do what are called DI Captures. They capture the head without the cabinet. This allows you to is whatever Impulse Responses you want with those captures.

I don’t think OP is asking about DI captures with an IR, I think they are asking about captures of just a cab. In the app, they have the symbol which is just a circle with some dots around it. There are some of these in the cloud. I’m not completely sure what it means or how they are made (there must be some kind of amplifier involved, or the cab wouldn’t be making any noise to simulate …)

Anyway, I’ve been trying a few. I sometimes play through a valve pre-amp pedal, into the nano, into monitors/laptop/PA. The nano can either (i) have the capture slot turned off and an IR selected, or (ii) use a cab capture, with IR turned off, or (iii) use a capture of a power amp only, with an IR also selected.

If anyone smarter than me can comment on the difference I’d be quite interested. All of (i)-(iii) can either sound good or dreadful depending on the choices of captures and IRs.

Okay thank you for this reply. What I imagined would fall under your (ii) example. You’d use a cab capture and then other processing prior to hitting the nano
