I’m wondering what the best way is to capture just the preamp of an amp head. Live I always put my pedalboard through the power amp of my ENGL Fireball. I just got the Nano Cortex and so I want to capture just the preamp of the Fireball. I have a Two Notes Captor, but I probably won’t need that right?
Here’s what I was thinking:
Guitar > Nano Cortex input
Nano Cortex Capture Out > Fireball input
Fireball FX Send > Nano Cortex Capture Input
Nano Cortex Output 1L > Fireball FX Return
Fireball speaker out > ENGL cab
Would this work? Hopefully this will capture the Fireball preamp without breaking anything and will allow me to A/B the capture when it’s done.
Actually it worked just fine. I could hear the sound I was creating and after the capturing I could A/B the original and the capture through the power amp and cab. They sounded identical, so great capture After the capturing I unhooked everything and just put the Nano Cortex into the FX return and it sounded awesome.
Thanks! I made this topic to be sure before I tried, but it worked like a charm. I’ve got some nice captures of just the preamp now (and boosted with different OD’s). I noticed there are relatively few captures that are just the preamp.
I am new with the NC and with the torpedo captor and I would like to capture the head of my Marshall VM with the torpedo captor, but I am not clear which is the input and which is the output of the torpedo for this and which type of cables yo use. Could you clarify it?
Thank you.
This is what I did with my valve king. I don’t know if it was necessary, but I put a mixer between the send output of the valveking and the capture input of the Nano, so I could boost the volume without having the amp cranked in my living room.
The capture seems to work exactly like my valveking, where if I put an over drive before my nano, it makes the sound very usable for modern metal
I also did this with a Joyo Zombie (had the tone up by 75% and gain low, about 20%). I doubt anyone is buying a Nano Cortex for a Joyo Zombie or a Valveking but if you guys are curious to try them, they’re up lol
By the way, if you guys end up wanting to try them, for fun, I recomend an EQ pedal and Overdrive in front of them as it’s how I normally use them. I found my valve king capture to work really well with my Squire Bass VI in Double Drop C# tuning. The amp really tames those crazy overtones that the instrument has and emphasises the low end in a very usable way
Hello, I found this topic useful. I would just like clarification that it is ok to not to connect output 1 to the effects Return of the amp. I intend to leave amp connected to a speaker so the load of the power amp is safe.
