I have noticed that the sound of my amp model changes if I add blocks after it in the chain, even if those blocks are turned off, e.g. chorus, delay or reverb. I don’t understand why that would happen on a digital device like the QC. Has anybody else noticed this? Thank you.
Switching blocks off should completely bypass them, so that doesn’t sound normal.
How exactly does the sound change? Does the volume go up/down?
It would be helpful if you could share your preset either as a screenshot or on cortex cloud.
Do you have two parallel signal chains? E.g. two amps and cabs both running together on different rows?
Audio signal phase is not locked in any way in the QC, so adding blocks on one chain will delay the audio slightly, but only on that chain. That means it will be slightly out of phase with the audio on the other chain.
I’va built patches with blocks duplicated onto both chains but left disabled in the past just to keep everything in phase.
Thank you both for your comments. I think phase could be the issue, as I did indeed have two amps, one in row 1 and one in row 3, but there was only ever one switched on at a time. I used scenes to switch between a 2203 for dirt and a Jazz Chorus for clean. A separate preset with just the 2203 sounded clearer and more rounded. Thanks again!
When I set up my presets, I put my amp blocks together on the same line, then use scenes to switch them on and off. Mono path. Parallel paths can definitely get you tripped up with phase issues.
This is great advice, thank you. I’ve had the QC for over three years and done over 300 gigs with it, yet I am still learning ways to improve my tone.
