Your recording process with QC (Reamping, etc.)

I’m curious to know how people are using the QC in the studio. How are you going about tracking a dry signal for reamping along with your initial processed signal, are you using it for reamping (and how), etc.? I haven’t recorded with mine yet so it would be great to know what’s actually working well for people. - Thanks

Many options there, so it depends on your setup and needs. I highly recommend the manual, which is well written and shows many examples.
Using the QC as an interface, you can record DI and processed signal(s) easily as well as doing reamping. So I would suggest starting there (see manual page 80-83).

Could you direct me to that manual? The one on the downloads page only appears to go to page 65 or so.

If anyone would care to share how the QC fits into their specific studio, that’d be great. We only seem to hear about it being used live…

here’s the full manual DL: User Manuals

presently I use my QC in the studio aggregated with several other interfaces into Logic on my Mac. I usually need 8-12 drum tracks per project so I use external interfaces for those, and use the QC for stringed instruments. Any time I track w/ the QC I record a DI channel (Input/channel/USB 1 in the DAW if you’re using Input 1 of the QC) and a stereo channel feed from the grid (usually channel 3/4 in Logic)
I use a monitor mixer to dial up the source I need to hear, rather than switch cables around.

I’ve experimented with reamping and it works fine, I just don’t have much need for it. To set it up, you’d route an ouput from your DAW to the USB input channel on the QC, use that as your Input setting for the lane you want to reamp on with the grid. Then you can output that back to the DAW.
Aggregating interfaces on a Mac also makes it possible to capture plugins and convert IRs into captures, etc.

I use a ‘quasi-reamp’ procedure when I’m recording video clips. I’m new to video and haven’t had time to study up on mixing, editing, and integrating multiple audio sources, so for now I send recorded tracks in my DAW back thru the QC (reamping) just to get the audio mixed in while tracking and filming live.

I don’t think I could reduce my setup down to JUST the QC for recording, but it handles a LOT more of the instrument tracking these days, it’s just too easy to preconfigure and go!

How are you planning on integrating yours? If you know how you want to set it up, there are probably some templates on the Cloud already configured for reamping thru your DAW.

Thanks so much for this; this is exactly the sort of inspiration I need.

As for how I’m going to use mine I’m currently revaluating everything, including DAW software. I’ll also be using a number of interfaces for tracking live drums and vocals. I also have a number of NDSP plugins, but with more and more of them being integrated into the QC the best way to use them might change…? (Not using them as plugins seems like adding a layer of unnecessary complexity though.)

Wish me luck in escaping analysis paralysis!
