V2Capture fails / produces inaccurate captures with MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp (“issue with recorded audio” error)

CorOS Version: 4.0.1
Cortex Control Version: 4.0.0
Unit: Quad Cortex

Describe your issue:
I’m having a repeatable issue when trying to capture my MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp using V2Capture.

I have verified the routing and connections many times, but the pedal still cannot be captured reliably.
Most attempts either fail during the process or produce a result that does not sound or behave much like the original pedal.

In many cases, I get the following error during capture:

“There was an issue with the recorded audio. Please ensure that no software or drivers are interfering with the USB audio connection, confirm that you have granted microphone permissions to Cortex Control, and try again. If the issue persists, contact support for assistance.”

On the rare occasions where the capture seems to complete successfully, the resulting capture still does not sound correct.
It usually lacks the actual compression feel and instead sounds like a slightly duller version of the signal, with some high-end loss and very little real compression behavior.

This issue seems to be specific to this pedal / pedal type rather than my overall capture setup, because I was able to capture distortion pedals and amp simulators successfully in the same environment.

My routing:

  • Guitar → Input 1
  • MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp output → Input 2
  • Capture Out → MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp input
  • XLR Out 1/2 from Quad Cortex → Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 Gen 4
  • Both expression pedal jacks are in use

Steps to reproduce your issue:

  1. Connect the MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp using the routing above.
  2. Start V2Capture.
  3. Follow the capture procedure normally.
  4. In many cases, the process ends with the recorded audio error.
  5. In the rare cases where it completes, compare the resulting capture with the original pedal.

Expected behavior:
The capture should complete normally and the result should sound and respond reasonably close to the original MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp, including the compression feel and dynamics.

Actual behavior:

  • V2Capture often fails with a “recorded audio” related error
  • Most capture attempts do not produce a convincing result
  • Very rarely, a capture completes that seems somewhat usable
  • Even when that happens, the result still lacks the real compression character
  • The capture sounds like it loses a bit of high end and does not reproduce the actual compression behavior well

What I have already checked / tried:

  • Rechecked all routing and physical connections many times
  • Repeated the capture process many times
  • Tried lowering output levels to avoid clipping
  • Tested different level settings during capture
  • Confirmed the pedal itself is working correctly
  • Confirmed distortion pedals and amp simulators can be captured successfully in the same setup

Additional notes:
Changing levels to make sure nothing clips did not solve the issue.
This feels less like a setup error and more like V2Capture may have difficulty capturing this specific compressor / Ross-style circuit correctly, or may be falsely detecting a recorded audio problem during the process.

It would be helpful to know whether the MXR CSP102SL Script Dyna Comp (or similar Dyna Comp / Ross-style compressors) is currently known to be difficult or problematic for V2Capture.

Has anyone else tested V2Capture with Dyna Comp / Ross-style compressors and had similar results?

If needed, I can also provide audio comparison clips and screenshots/photos of the routing and the error message.

I use a maxon bass comp which is a Ross /dyna comp style and I’ve had no problem with my v2 captures that I’ve noticed, I can go back and double check

It could be that it’s just a device the capture process has trouble with; some are notoriously tricky.

Best way for an ‘official’ answer is to get in touch with Support@neuraldsp.com , it would be good to get their direct response (they’re probably not going to reply here in this thread)

I’m not sure if it’s just my particular Dyna Comp, but with higher-output guitars it seems to have a bit of an internal clipping character, so I wonder if that might be affecting the capture process.

Yeah, I’ll probably reach out to support.

I may also take the opportunity to politely complain about how Dyna Comp has been on the Quad Cortex “planned” list for what feels like forever and still hasn’t been added

I eventually gave up waiting and bought the actual pedal, so it was a pretty brutal surprise to realize I can’t even capture it properly.
