Just like the topic says, I would love to know how to actually use the QC as an FX unit/send inside a DAW, say I have a bunch or source recordings, synth vsts etc, I want to have a channel track that is set up so I can throw all these in there, process with FX chains inside QC, hear it and then print back the result as an audio track inside the DAW. the output for my QC is routed to out 5/6 (stereo). Basically making QC as multi FX plugin. Any help please ?
Hello, yes you can absolutely do what you’re asking about.
I do not mean to sound snarky and condescending, but: The manual has a whole section (Computer Integration) about hooking up a QC as an audio interface, including setting up USB channels. Have you followed this?
You will need to simultaneously configure a set of outputs from the DAW to USB inputs in the QC, and a set of USB outputs from the QC to inputs in the DAW.
I use Mac and Logic but have the QC set up as part of an aggregate device with a submixer for monitoring so I’m not sure if all my settings would translate, but to reamp I use a Blend block on the QC as Input from the DAW, set to whichever USB Output channels you are sending from in the DAW. You may have to experiment by toggling thru the USB channels/tracks to find the matching pairs if you have other gear or configurations involved. (You could also set the Input channel of the reamping row to the Input that corresponds to the Output being sent from the DAW instead of using the BLend block) To get the signal from the DAW to the QC you’ll want to set the DAW track’s output or Bus Send to the corresponding USB input channels you selected on the QC
Now set the Output of the QC reamping Row to wherever you want to send it in the DAW for rerecording- you’ll probably want to set up a separate DAW Channel/track with its Input receiving the USB channels or MULTI-output from the Quad.
Hope that works for your setup and isn’t too confusing. Once you get started making the routing template any kinks you come across can probably be worked out here. This works for me, but with my submixer I am able to pull up QC and DAW levels independently; if you’re not doing it this way there may be more routing involved for your monitoring situation
Thank you for sharing your detailed workflow! I just figured it out and I understand why it seemed like a very complicated task, it’s because I did not think of actually using QC as an interface inside the DAWs to then do all the necessary routings, for whatever reason I thought this could be done without switching between interfaces, like just running your interface and wait for it to work like a Plugin. Thank you again
