Using Device Captures (ie. Compressors) as Pre Effects?

Excitement abounds with the availability of the V2 captures. I immediately have a question and maybe I’ve missed something early on. Is it possible to use a capture such as the OC-76 Comp in a pre-effect slot? If that’s not possible, what is the use case for such captures?

At the moment, no. I was confused as to why they showcased the ability to add these compressor / fuzz / drive captures if we can’t add them in a pre effect slot. You could use them in a preset capture block with a standard pedalboard setup and real amp as a single effect. Hopefully we get the ability to add a capture in any effect slot, at least pre effect for sure!

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. The nice list of V2 device captures just announced is effectively a large bag of nothing. That’s a real shame.

Yeah, that´s true.

However… I´ve been with my buddy and his QC trying to capture some clean preamp settings with a compressor after it. Using the “compressor” capturing option, damn… the result is absolutely mindblowing. I mean, it´s not a capture of the compressor alone, it´s a clean Mesa Boogie Triaxis with a compressor in post (no poweramp, no cab), and it was indistinguishable for us to the real gear (through the real power amp and cab).

So.. maybe We´ll be able to use it joined to a preamp (at least to a clean setting). This test was clean, but not so clean actually. It was breaking with more intensity picking or with humbuckers.

Yea luckily for myself I have the QC as well as Nano so I can use the new v2 captures and so far they are fantastic! Hopefully we get them available for pre effect on the Nano.

Not everyone envisions the NC as their amp in a box. With compressors on the table I wonder how studio post effects and using a pulteq EQ setup for electric bass, for example.

Tons of use cases, imo.

I’m stoked and imagine the NC as last in line interface and now with suite of studio compressors

Ok. That makes sense. I’m starting to realize I live in a bit of bubble. Gotta break out. Thanks for the insight.
