Slow Gear / Auto Swell Controllable with Tap Tempo

Please add Slow Gear / auto swell controllable via tap tempo. It was on the original list but never made it to production.

Auto swell ramps up according to tap tempo.

would love to see this added as well.

Reviving this topic after 2.1.0 update:

I have been keeping a Boss DD-500 on my board along with my QC for other delay types. Reverse delay was one of those, but the QC finally got it with 2.1.0.

DD-500 also has a mode called Slow Attack which I use a lot. This mode allows you to choose a volume threshold, rise time, fall time, etc.

If this auto swell function can get implemented in the QC, I think I may not need the DD-500 anymore. It should have the option to toggle rise/fall times with tap tempo, or have fixed rates.

Bumping this (again). I’m about to pull the trigger on purchasing an Electro-Harmonix Attack Decay but this should be easy to implement in the QC. Features I would want to see in a block like this:

  • Attack (or rise) time
  • Decay (or fall) time
  • Envelope threshold control
  • Envelope curve shapes – linear, parabolic, S-curve
  • Tap tempo capable
  • SIDECHAINABLE
  • Mix control
  • Level control

For this feature request, it would be great to get a general modulation/LFO block that we can connect to various controls, similar to what you see in many software-based synthesizers.

This would function like a virtual expression pedal and allow us to create an automatic volume swell, and also control just about any other variable parameter via tap tempo.

+1 would love this as well

+1 for this feature!

The tap tempo is an interesting idea, but I’d honestly be happy with just a simple Slow Gear Ala the original Boss pedal or what’s found in my Boss multi effects. Thanks!

Just bumping this one. I know a Slow Gear-type device has been on the “announced but not released” device list for basically forever, and I really miss this for more ambient sounds. Given there’s already a simple sort of ADSR function in the Synth block, it hopefully shouldn’t be too much effort to make this happen. Pretty please…

also you can sort of get close with the new Blossom verb at 100% mix and 0 decay time. It works a little better than the Utility Gate swell trick as you can actually play chords but it does change the tone a little bit

I need to try this with the Blossom reverb, but we still need a proper auto swell function.

I’m using an EHX Pico Attack Decay on my board these days but it doesn’t feel “right”. It’s coming off the second the QC can adopt a new auto swell block.

I found that a Utility Gate after the amp does the trick and you can even set the speed it comes in with the ms setting. Range off and threshold to taste works best.

the Utility Gate trick works well for single notes, but you have to leave space between them for the gate to reset. Not so good for strummed chords. Also, the gate will cut the decay short, which the Blossom rev won’t.

100% reverb is at the moment the only way to reliably smooth off attacks, but obviously leaves you with a reverb effect at source. Never found the utility gate trick to work that well - as you say, you have to play at the right pace and spacing to hit the gate trigger correctly.

But yeah, I have already built a few pad sounds with 100% Blossom :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
