I know this has been raised a few times before, but the threads seemed to fade to nothing.
I’m really surprised the QC doesn’t have an auto-swell function, has anyone come up with a work around?
I’ve found the closest it can get is to use the Utility gate with the threshold set around 30-40 (dial it in on your specific guitar), and the attack at maximum. This will give the initial note a slow-attack/swell effect, but you have to let the gate close for it to work on the next note, so you can’t really play legato or strum a chord slowly. If you can separate your notes enough it’ll create the desired effect
You can also experiment with the Reverse Delay at 100% and no repeats
While we’re on the subject:
I really want an auto swell feature in the QC–if it can happen, I will remove my Boss DD-500 delay from my pedalboard. Auto swell in it is too important to me to let it go.
they’re still showing the SlowGear/Swell Utility on the " Announced devices that have not yet been released" list, so here’s hoping! ASDR to the rescue!
I tried to dial in a better response with the new side-chaining capabilities, but it’s still kinda wonky. You can definitely get slow-attack/swells that clip off the pick attack, but the gating also cuts the sustain too soon. Depending on how you play with it, it might give you something?
Key is dialing in the Threshold setting on the first gate. It has to be set for the pickups you’re using. I made it using Dano Lipsticks (probably shouldn’t have done that) so it may need to be tweaked for hotter or weaker p’ups.
Be sure to read the description for how it works and how you have to play, or it can get frustrating.
Open to any ideas to improve it:
