Setting up a rehearsal room with two Quad Cortex units — which active FRFR speakers and RMS power do I need?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using my Quad Cortex for about a month now, and for personal practice I’m running it through a Laney LFR-110, which has been excellent so far.

I’m now planning to build a full band rehearsal room and would appreciate some guidance before I start buying more gear. The band setup looks like this:

  • 2 guitarists, both using Quad Cortex

  • 1 bassist with a traditional bass amp

  • 1 acoustic drummer (not mic’d yet)

  • 3 vocal microphones currently running through passive speakers

  • Allen & Heath CQ-20B digital mixer

My main doubt:

I want to avoid buying traditional guitar amplifiers. Instead, I’d like to use active FRFR speakers for both Quad Cortex units.

Is this the correct / recommended approach?

Specific questions:

  1. What active FRFR speakers would you recommend for a rehearsal room with two Quad Cortex units?

  2. What RMS power rating is appropriate to comfortably keep up with an acoustic drum kit (without running everything at max volume)?

Any advice, personal experience, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :raising_hands:

It depends on your needs and budget. We rehearse with acoustic drums mic’d and three vocals and all instruments are running thru Quad Cortex and Fractal. We have Atomic Clr frfr speakers and we all use in ears but we have some powered speakers cranking as well for vocals in the room which is nice if you have visitors and crew around.
