Hi all, I have a question about inserting a monitor mix signal to input 2 on the QC.
Can I mix the monitor mix that’s coming into input 2 and mix it in the QC so that the total mix can be heard in the headphone out?
I don’t want to add the monitor mix into the XLR outputs.
Can this be done?
I use something similar into my Kemper stage inserting the monitor mix into a aux. (Return)
This works great on the Kemper and I would like to use this on the Qac as well, if possible.
It can be done. The best underrated feature of the qc is its digital routing.
Using your example…input 2, as a iem feed would be mono (ie because input 2 is mono regardless of trs) however. Your headphone mix would have to come out of the qc.
example
Lane 1 → input 1 → selected block chain → out 1/2 xlr
Lane 3-> input 2 (output from monitor mix) → output? (Anything not actually using)
Adjust lane 3 levels by holding ouput, adding gain block in chain, eq block, or whatever. Mix to taste.
Set qc hp volume by wiggling volume/attenuator wheel and assigning volume to hp only.
There are other methods too. Some better than others. Mixing becomes subtractive, pending setup.
Monitoring- 100% doable hearing your guitar in stereo in the mix using QC & P16 However, you will lose your fx loop.
You need (1) 1/4”trs to two 1/4” ts cable.
Plug trs end into the p16 headphone out jack. The 2 1/4” ts cables get plugged into the RET 1/2 on the QC.
On your QC preset (say row 4), assign your input as RET 1/2 and route output to 3/4 (which goes nowhere).
In your main settings (3 vertical dots in upper right corner) change your “master volume knob setting” by unchecking “out 1/2, out3/4, send 1/2”, but leave headphones.
Plug your headphones or IEM’s into the QC headphone jack. Recommend turning the big knob (now your master headphone) down to 85 (this gives your headphone headroom). Now you simply turn your guitar (6 or 7 or whatever) in the p16 off and you now have stereo guitar mixed with the p16 through your QC.
Isn’t the headphone mix tied to 1-2? Only way to do what they need is a a headphone amp or mixer outside the QC, and not use the headphone output on the QC itself I think
To your questions yes. But to the ops point (and my 1st respons -op), you can still insert mono monitor mix to input 2, then mix both signals independently. Thats assuming your hp volume isnt 100% i guess.
I personally went down this rabbit hole to figure out how to monitor my personal mix in stereo playing live on a top notch FOH system. Digital routing is my 2nd favorite thing about the qc (1st capturing).
Don’t know how to convince you. Been playing live with this very method for 6 months. Tracks/click and all… no bleed, no issues. Its just routing. Lets just agree to disagree.
You can mix Out 1/2 and Out 3/4 separately into the QC headphone mix. What Topherbass suggested works if you sacrifice a row to send input 2 only to Out 3/4 and everthing else only to Out 1/2.
WIth nothing physically connected to Out 3/4, it will still be in the headphone mix, while the signal on Out 1/2 doesn’t contain anything from Input 2.
Personally I’d prefer an external mixer so I don’t need to change my presets, but I just tested this and it works.
