Quad Cortex+Tube amp Hybrid setup

Hi guys!
Only new to this magnificent piece of gear and I would like to try things out before settling on my favourite way of using it live and in rehearsals. One thing I would love to try is to set it up so as to have sound for front of house and use the same effects and devices/blocks for using it in 4CM. Is this feasible? Anyone on here with an example of a preset I could try out just to see how it would manifest?
Thank you in advance!

The manual has instructions on how to setup for 4CM and 7CM (p64..65), plus there is a factory preset (I believe just one) that is already setup for 4CM that you can use for references.

Thank you! I’ll make sure I double check. Before doing that let me clarify that ideally I would want to use it as 4CM (using the amp as a monitor) and at the same time use the QC as a modeller and send front of house. I have already looked into using 4CM and 7CM in a twin amp situation and it works marvelously.

Ideally, you would just configure the signal grid to split to a lane then using an output for FOH using your preferred IR etc.

Thanks! And at the same time, I guess, using different outputs for each lane? Do I simply drag the lane to split or is it more complex than that?

To clarify my last question: would it be possible to include a lane that would enable me to use a tube amp in 4CM on a preset like 4H ( I think it’s called ‘Dual Amps and cabs’ or something to that effect)? This way i’d be able to get sound from QC straight to FOH and monitors and use the tube amp as a monitor.

Yes. Go look up rabeas Hybrid QC / Amp Videos - he explains it pretty good.

You’ll just setup your Preset as you like, and then draw an extra lane to another output. There should not be a active IR, this one goes to your Amp.

I’m using it like this live - and it is beautiful. Full control for what the FOH Guy/Girl gets AND having a great punchy stage sound from the Tube Head behind me.

Thank you ever so much for your help! Exactly what i’m looking for. Could you give me a link for said video?

I think it was this video:

Thank you so much for taking the time..did you actually use two amps? How big was the stage?

No, i just use it with one amp.
I use my Blackstar St James 6l6 as power amp.
This is the basic structure of my preset. Instead of send 1 i use output 3 now for the bottom line which goes to the Amp.
Wiring:
QC Send - Amp Input
QC Return - Amp Send
QC Output 3 - Amp Return

Like that you can just use any amp model with the tube amp and switch them as you like.
I also no use a high/low cut at the end of the fourth line to cut out a little bit of 8k+ hizz on the real cab

Thank you! Looks very interesting

Sorry to be a pest, but just to clarify a bit. Using the QC this way means basically ‘cancelling’ the amp’s preamp, right? Also, does the master volume on the amp mean you can control the volume or is that done strictly from the QC’s volume?

You can just throw in a fx loop block for using your amps preamp.
The way i described it, you can use either master volume and qc as overall master. I suggest watching all of rabeas videos for the qc - he explains it very well and has several deep dives on that topic

I have done that obsessively! Everytime I think i’ve got the hang of it something else comes up. Where would the FX loop block be placed?

Where you want it to be placed. ideally between pre and post FX.
Rabea shows this as well

Sorry to be so persistently asking the same questions, but i’m finding it a bit hard to get my head round this! Could you share where exactly he shows this?

I screenshot this a while back. This might be what your looking for.

If you’re wanting to use your amps preamp use the fx loop block. If you want to use a QC amp model then bypass it and activate the amp model (will use your amps power amp).

Now his setup is using two amps for stereo. So you may just need the top signal path if running mono.

You’ll put the FX Block where you would put the Amp Block.
I don’t now the exact position of the video.
Don’t overthink this stuff to much, try it out, look how you find the sound.
You can configure many things in your own taste with it.

Thank you! I’ve tried the same a while ago. However, the way I’d ideally use it is run two stereo amps from the QC to front of house and run the same fx blocks (post and pre) through a tube amp+cab as a monitor behind me on stage
