Quad Cortex Development Update #55

Wow, a life sign! But unfortunately not much more…

Well, hmmm, that’s a bit disappointing I guess.
I expected that after the porting of the first plugins it would be easier to port the rest. Now it’s even taking longer it seems.

I’m still happy with the current functionality of the QC but I was hoping for something a bit more exciting in this long-awaited dev update.

Which puts all of the others even further out if at all.

Agreed with comments so far. The plugins I’m most looking forward to on the QC is the Rabea and Henson ones. Disappointed those aren’t next so that means an even longer wait period.

Well, this kinda sucks…

“along with some other highly requested features.”

Exciting news! Although much room for speculations.

I figure it was pretty obvious there was a problem or some kind of bad news if there was that big of a pause. At least they finally checked in.

I for one am kind of happy to hear this. Radio silence is always a no-go, so hearing from them is a positive in my books. I purchased Nolly X in large part because of the PCOM that would eventually go with it, so I guess I’m one of the lucky ones that is happy to hear about this update! Hopefully whichever plugin you’re hoping for PCOM with happens next :crossed_fingers:

I was under the impression that when they would finally achieve the first PCOM, they would go a lot faster, but it was due to me assuming that all the plugins are coded on the same bases, which doesn’t seem to be the case.

That is a pity though, as, like many others, for me PCOM is really something I don’t care about. I would rather see other things coming to the QC like the automated mono sum-up when only one cable is plugged in.

Can you elaborate on this or share the link to the feature request?

I think he means where if you have an output pair selected, but only plug in one side it doesn’t sum to mono, you just lose half your stereo path.

You have to switch to a single output in the Output block if you want it summed.
Most modelers can auto-sum based on whether you’ve plugged in 1 cable or 2

Cool. So the QC won’t leave the beta phase for another decade I guess…

@carl , indeed, @xush is right. My Helix Rack does this automatically: when only one cable is plugged in, the signal chain, if it is stereo, is summed up to a mono signal in the end, so that ping pong delays and other stereo setups are not missing anything. This is not the best way to do it: it can lead in some cases to phasing issues, but it is better than having to always have 2 versions of my setlists: one stereo if the venue actually reads my band’s rider, and one mono if, as in 90% of the cases, the venue does not read the rider and gives me one XLR plug.
And here is the feature request: https://unity.neuraldsp.com/t/automatically-sum-to-mono/4815

Got it, thank you @gnumarco and @xush. That makes sense.

I have not yet gigged with my QC and have been using two XLRs at home. I’m sure this would have tripped me up. I incorrectly assumed that [Left Out = Mono] based on other devices I have owned. I voted for the feature

please excuse my ignorance. What does this means ‘a single output in the output block’? For me I use Out 1/2. So if we have only 1 XLR we have to change this to a different out if we want to send the full signal to FOH?

I know this isn’t what you’re talking about. (It would be nice to have auto-sum to mono). But, in the meantime you could use this.

It does suck that we have to find work arounds for things that should have been included in the first place though.

Yes, instead of the pair of 1/2 you’d have to manually change it to “Output 1” only.

If you’re set to Output 1/2 on the output block but only have 1 XLR connected, you are losing any stereo content- it’s not being summed to mono. If you have a stereo delay, one whole side will just be gone. The worst part is, you might not even realize it if you’re using headphones, as headphones always sends you a stereo signal by default, regardless of the other Output settings. It can get really confusing.

Ah yes thank you. I had no idea as you said with headphones. They really need to update this feature.

What’s the status on the Morgan Amp X release?
