I was sweating out the race between the Mod Devices Dwarf and the QC when it was originally announced. I ordered them both and didn’t know which would be released first (they both had huge delays)
Eventually the MOD showed up first, but once the QC finally arrived the Dwarf never got plugged in again.
I mean, I love mine; it’s my main piece of gear and it sounds absolutely fantastic. But I’ve definitely got gas building for QOL improvements in this update.
“Transpose: Pitch your guitar up or down by a constant interval (+12/-12 semitones). Use this to easily change the tuning of your instrument.”
This description on plugins truly made me think its a polyphonic shifter… “easily change the tuning” and the name Transpose mislead me… a bit dissapointed is not a “true” transpose although I did like the plugin version when I tried it…
Where did anyone see that transpose is monophonic? I don’t think it is the one in the plugin it’s not and even the normal pitch shifter can handle chords on a guitar so definitely not monophonic.
NDSP answered my direct support inquiry saying it is NOT polyphonic.
They won’t get more specific than that, just that it works a “different way” but “does behave quite well and performs very well”
I have had a Fractal Axe FX, Kemper, etc. Nothing comes close to QC. Take the time to learn it and dial it in and be sure to sell that Axe FX III before the value plummets. I have given Fractal many chances and they always end up in the trash.
There are more threads about this. I have been in extensive communication with NDSP support for weeks, without any success. I just figured out myself what was happening and modified my setup for the problem not to happen, but still there IS a problem with how the QC handles USB.
@gnumarco : I don’t believe that your problem is solved: I think that you found a workaround where the bug doesn’t show up as often as before, with a probability small enough that you didn’t see the problem yet. But I bet that sooner or later, it will come back.
Usually, in computer science when there is a random behavior it is related to a bug in the access to memory. I am pretty sure there is some access to a memory address computed using an uninitialized variable which is usually zero, but which could be any a random value due to external perturbations. Some people observed a constant periodic shift in the samples, which could indicate a random shift in addresses in the buffers.
To NeuralDSP: I would be happy to help your team try to find this bug. Don’t hestiate to contact me!
@scemama yes, I know this, I have a PhD in computer science
Also, I never said that I solved the problem, I said that I modified my setup for the problem not to happen.
I did all the extensive testing that you would do to isolate the cause, and my conclusion was that the QC is extremely sensitive to electrical perturbations when handling USB. So the setup that was producing the problem was when I have the non-NDSP power source plugged into the QC AND a very particular monitor that has a grounded power plug plugged into the same power outlet.
Using the NDSP-provided power source AND not using this particular monitor (or plugging it into a power outlet that is on another electrical circuit in my house) makes the problem not happen. BUT, I did not say it was solved, as if I really want to use this monitor with the QC, I can’t
I’m downloading the new firmware now. I have two Quad Cortex units in two locations and I was wondering if I need to be with my computer that has my ilock on it to get the free plugin? My other computer does not have ilock on it at the location I am currently at.
I don’t think you’ll need the computer; when the QC signs into your NDSP account it should validate the license from there. As long as you have the iLOk account connected to your NDSP profile you should be good.
I didn’t need to log in to my ilok account with my laptop. I had linked my ilok with my Neural account way back. As soon as I connected my QC to WiFi it authorized my plugin. Honestly was really easy and almost instant after I selected my plugin gift.
I didn’t need a computer either, but I already have all the plugins licensed thru my iLok account. Just hit the refresh button on the QC and good to go.
