Quad Cortex Clone Tones

Hi everyone. My name is Dwayne, and I’ve been around since 2021, when I first got my Quad Cortex. I also run the device list site you might be familiar with: https://quadcortex.co, where you can find what models/cabs are to their real-world equivalents. I’ve started creating Quad Cortex content over on YouTube, most notably cloning song tones from scratch and going through the process.

As much as this is self-promotion, I figured people would appreciate another resource for using the Quad Cortex as I do delve into things like using the EQ, how to dial in amps, effects and other things. They’re meant to be short educational videos. I also take requests as well if there is a song tone you want me to try and get.

I am still learning how to make the format better, and I am not the best player, but here are a couple of things I have done recently:

hi there and thanks for your work on the website with the https://www.quadcortex.co/ website, I have found it very useful

I havent checked, but have you been keeping it up to date with the newest QC changes?

Thanks again for your work

Hi. I am pretty new here to QC. This list is a great reference. Question: How do you choose between a modeled amp and a captured amp? For example, there is a model for JPC2, but then also a capture for JPC2. What is the difference?

awesome!! i´ll subscribe this is content i would love.
can you do one for the mateus asato tone in drown by polyphia?
john frusciante tone
the guitar tone in cherry by standards (has poly and octaver which is difficult to get accurate on the qc, would be a good example for a tutorial of those effects)
thanks! looking forward to your content

Captures are made of specific settings of an amp, drive etc., at a moment in time where models can be tweaked replicating the tones of the amp(s) for all your needs.

Cheers everyone. The more these videos I do, the better my ears get at identifying certain effects and amps. I’m finding I can hear when a song is using a Marshall or Mesa-style amp. Gets a little trickier when you’re listening to combined amps, but I’m finding I’m able to start visualising some of these tones in my mind before I even turn my QC on (perhaps insanity?).

The original idea stemmed from the fact I’ve always chased clone tones.

I’m open to anything and have a list of tones people have asked for:

  • Queens of The Stoneage
  • Keith Scott from Bryan Adams
  • Gin Blossoms
  • A few others

I’m just waiting for modeler AIs to be able to instantly dial me up any tone. Input any song or point it to a tune online and it isolates the guitar or bass track and uses any blocks resident on the modeler to dial up as close an approximation as it can get. Sure, the hunt can be fun and educational, but a lot of tedium would be eliminated by sophisticated tone-matching capabilities.

I’ve been doing somewhat the same for myself. Just looking at Rig Rundown videos and building presets based on my favorite artists’ rigs. Lots of fun! Thanks for sharing!

yeah don´t worry! have fun! and the educational part is precisely that tone focus and those workarounds so i´m excited to see what you come up with
as someone mentioned theres rig rundowns and a bunch of artist gear pages so that is always useful but getting the right EQ and pedal levels or even going for different amps on modelers that sound better is where it gets tricky so i´m hoping to see more of your content soon!!!
