I was watching some of the Grammy Awards show last night–I’m not in that musical space at all, but my wife wanted me to join her so she could see my reactions. Spotted a Quad Cortex on stage during Teddy Swims’s performance. I don’t know the name of the guitarist playing behind him.
I didn’t get through the whole show, though. I think it’s interesting to see modelers infiltrating such a high-production-value event, where setup and teardown across multiple stages within minutes is of upmost importance to the overall flow.
I think that’s exactly the space they are appearing the most personally. Especially big productions with everyone on IEMs and super fast and precise changeovers, modellers of any kind are absolutely the best option.
Cool to actually see, although your eyesight is way better than mine if you can make out a QC in the top picture
This is the best photo I could find–not a very good one–but there were multiple camera angles during the performance. I was able to make out the switches and volume knob, and confirm it’s a QC. And yes, I was scoping out all of the gear throughout the show.
Didnt watch it, but I think digital/modelers are the way these big acts are going and probably have been for a couple of years. Big touring acts (that aren’t the Stones, AC/DC, etc) are doing this for ease of setup / take down, transport, reliability, and consistency. the audience at a stadium or 10k+ venue isn’t going to hear the difference between a mic’ed Plexi/AC30/Vibroverb and a captured one. And these acts dont have to worry about treasured gear getting lost/stolen/ damaged.
Went to see Bruce Springsteen on the Graham Norton show. St.Vincent played. On the way out noticed QC on stage and asked the guitarist what he thought of it as I got one 2 days before. Said he was impressed and wanted to keep it as it was on trial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFr1vpF9_lY
