Keep your pedals and you have a backup rig. When I got the QC, I sold a lot of pedals thinking QC was the only thing I needed/wanted. Now, I ended up buying all the pedals back and a few new ones that I have really dialed in what I like in QC and I have now as a “real” pedalboard.
My sound in QC is pretty simple - Transpose, Whammy, Octave (POG), Phaser (Phase 90 Script), SLO100 Amp and Cab, Analogy Delay, and EQ. I now have that same exact setup on another pedalboard but with the actual pedals - the only difference is that the SLO100 Amp/Cab that I have in QC from the Plug-In version is replaced with a Tonex One. I have the Tonex One setup with an SLO100 capture of the amp, the amp with a cab, and of the SLO pedal itself. If I want to run a FRFR I just use the SLO100 amp/cab capture into a FRFR (Laney LFR-212) or if I want to use an actual tube amp (say there’s a backline and I want to use it and have a cab on stage) I can switch the Tonex One to be the SLO pedal capture, or just the Amp DI capture, run the whole board into the front of the amp or the effects return (with it all set very clean).
While the QC is great, and I love the effects in it, the standalone pedals themselves still sound better to me at the end of the day so it is nice to have both for different situations. Now, the convenience of QC doesn’t really outweigh the need for standalone pedals, it’s just a “nice to have”.
No problem! It’s always great to have a backup rig, so that’s ultimately what I’ve done here. I sold off a lot of my pedals at first to fund the QC, but now I’ve purchased a lot of those same pedals back. Learn from mine, and others, mistakes
A lot of Strymon users who get a QC complain that they can’t get the same quality of reverbs and delays in the QC as the BigSky and Timeline.
It’s up to you if you decide you want/need an all-in-one approach by using the QC by itself, or if you want to supplement the QC with external pedals. (I can’t get away from certain Boss pedals like the RE-2.) But at least keep your pedals long enough to fully A/B them all.
On second thought, keep everything but get rid your Analogman. Those things are trash and cause all sorts of diseases. Terrible shame, really. They’re incredibly hazardous for your health. I’d hate to see you get sick, so why don’t you just mail it to me and I’ll make sure it gets disposed of properly. I definitely wouldn’t keep it for my own… you can trust me, I’m a guy on a forum…
I went from fully analog (except delay and verb) to fully digital. I ended up buying a Cali76 for the colouration it added and it helped me feel and sound like I was playing into my amp.
I captured all my drive pedals before I sold them as well as buying/downloading pedal captures that people sell/share. My entire main drive and amp chain is made up purely from a combination of my own and acquired captures.
No, I kept my reverb and delay pedals. I own a Nemesis and a Ventris, both by Source Audio. My original plan was to sell them, and I think if I was switching from another multi FX unit to the QC, I would have been fine. But both of those pedals are so good and I couldn’t get anything even close to the quality of the delays and reverbs I was getting from my Source Audio pedals, so I kept them. I run them in a stereo FX loop after my amps and blend the return with the dry straight-through.
