I’m coming back to this topic because I don’t want someone else to find it and think that there aren’t risks.
Here is a test that someone ran on their QC Mini. It measured right at 1A during both boot up and stable operation:
I’ve seen where Cioks owners are using just two 500 mA outputs to power a QC Mini. That’s fine–but I want you to understand that there is an increased risk involved with running the outputs of a power supply at maximum. The thermal stress that this applies to the transformer and other components inside can affect the longevity of your power supply. Adding more current capability (paralleling three 500 mA outputs for a combined 1.5A) helps to mitigate that risk.
I think it’s irresponsible that Cioks have been telling people to just use two outputs from their supplies. They haven’t been forthcoming about how much their supplies can tolerate this in the long term.
If you’re going to spend over $1K on a piece of gear that is meant for live use, don’t treat it with the bare minimum required to power it.
