QC Mini => No More Grounding and Hum Issues?

Hi,

I was looking at getting the QC Mini for traveling and some other uses.

  • HOWEVER… does it have the exact same power supply?
  • HOWEVER…does it have the same horrific grounding issues and hum noise as the QC

It still uses just a barrel connector for power, so pretty sure it needs to be grounded via an output to a monitor etc.

Its the same as the normal QC aside from some basic functions and I/O

can you expand this?
I have no grounding problem with my QC except for one single guitar.
How do you ground it in the studio?

The QC doesn’t have a 3-prong power cord, so the power cord does not provide a ground connection. The QC instead can be grounded by connecting one of the TRS/XLR outputs to another piece of equipment (monitor, power amp, etc) that has a 3-prong grounded power cord.

It can be an issue if you want to use the QC plugged into only headphones or a laptop on battery etc, but otherwise is not really a problem.

I get a ground noise hum plugging my QC into a PA system; where the QC is powered off of a different electrical outlet than the PA system. Also - I am using a wireless connection from my instrument (violin) to the QC.

I wonder if the wireless has anything to do with it? But I have used the QC wireless in some places, and went straight out into the PA without any issues … in some places.

could be a ground loop. Might try a hum eliminator to see.

yeah, that seems more like a ground loop issue in that case.

Entirely possible that the wireless is inducing buzz, I’ve had that experience before. Should be easy enough to determine if that’s the culprit.

Dirty venue power is a whole other subject- not a heck of a lot you can do with that
