I just noticed that in the online list of Quad Cortex devices, there is a section titled “Devices replaced by Captures”. Am I understanding this correctly? Is NDSP really removing device models from the QC in subsequent updates? The captures probably sound great for the specific settings, but they will not have the functionality of an all-in-one model.
Some of the devices listed as being removed are the Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+, Diezel VH4, Diezel Herbert, Orange Rockerverb, and the Bogner Überschall (original). Those are amazing legendary amps!
I am still a little confused on what exactly was removed. For example, the Diezel VH4 is listed as removed, and there are captures for it, but there is also still an amp model for the Diezel VH4 (named “D-Cell H4”). For the Bogner Überschall, it seems like maybe the original amp version was removed but the rev Blue model is still there?
My only guess is that recent firmware updates impacted model functionality, but that doesn’t explain how some amps made the cut and others didn’t. Of course, this is only a guess on my part and I need to spend some time pulling up the models to see what is really there in 3.1.0.
It would be great if someone can clarify. Hopefully we are not taking a step backwards with the recent firmware updates.
Got it, thanks for clarifying! The wording they chose for that section of the list is confusing, at least to me. Even the note in the tool tip seems to imply that there was a device that was replaced.
Kinda crazy they listed that stuff for years and then decided to change their mind about doing a model lol. Kind of whack to have listed that as an upcoming thing for so long
I don’t know much of the history since I only received my QC a few months ago. I checked the Wayback Machine and the earliest list of QC devices saved there is from January 2024. On that version, the list of “replaced” devices is identical to the current list.
NDSP may have been overly optimistic in promising some of the models early on. I guess I can’t complain; the list of amp models as of 3.1.0 is pretty impressive and NDSP continues to port over their software plugins.
This could be said, but this is what drives innovation of products like the QC. Things change quick with tech like this, and sometimes implementing a new idea will reveal an unforeseen issue that could make it impossible to realize.
That said, I’m sure there will be some things they may not be able to get done. A few less amps won’t hurt my feeelings
