Not sure - QC or MINI QC?

Hi,

I am struggling deciding on the QC vs. MINI QC thing.

My question is - I (already) have a Morningstar MC6 PRO. I can run 2 expression pedals into the MC6 - and then allow via setup/control the MIDI CC type messages (from the 2 exp pedals) to come out of the back of the MC6, along with any other MIDI Messages (like PC messages) that I set up on the device.

SO - Can I feed all of these MIDI messages (the PC messages and CC messages from the 2 exp pedals) - from the MC6 into the QC MINI?? Can I really use the 1/8” TRS input for MIDI to send BOTH MIDI PC change messages - to change scenes in the QC MINI; as well as sending MIDI CC messages from my exp pedals - via the MC6 Pro??

Thanks!!

AJ

Yes, you should be able to do all of that. I love the newer TRS midi jacks for saving space. The capabilities of both units are the same, just a different form factor.

we’re compiling all the main differences between the models here- there are some fairly notable ones:

It depends what you’re trying to do via midi with the QC. The QC midi is somewhat limited, so you won’t have as much control as maybe Line 6 or some other modelers.

Personally I would just get the normal QC and not bother with the additional midi controller. The midi controller + mini QC will take up more space than the QC, and the screen on the mini will not show all 8 scenes or stomps at once.

I have a QC and a mc6 pro and with the last update that allows you to toggle gig view with the footswitches I feel like the QC is in a better place. Not critical to have it anymore I feel but I do still like it for making setlists, sending commands to the QC and midi clock.

allows me to build presets on the mc6 pro and use just one of a couple presets on theQC. But now not so sure if it isn’t just easier to do it all on the QC. Will just make a lot of redundant presets on the QC if doing one preset for song. Would love if the QC had global blocks that could be adjusted and changes in all your presets but that’s a different issue

Just be aware that the midi implementation is very limited. Check out the midi command list. I moved from a rig using the MC6 pro controlling a mostly analog board and i have less midi control of the QC than my analog pedals like chase bliss.

Thanks for your feedback. I already happen to have the MC6 Pro, which is what prompted this forum post. There are some cases, like maybe street busking, or playing at somebody’s house - where I would just use the device and I would want something “more portable”. Having said that, I do understand that the QC itself is rather small and portable.

Makes sense! If I was you I would sell the midi controller and just get the QC. I wouldn’t trust having the extra connection between the two units, and it’ll be so annoying to program the Morningstar for the various presets you make. If you want the text to match up with your scenes or stomps. Makes more sense to just have the one unit. The QC is still pretty small honestly
