New to capture, seeking answer

I am a huge Satriani fan and I noticed IK multimedia have released tonex captures of his new amp. Made me wonder, if I buy this library can I capture those with my quad cortex?

Technically, you can capture any amp, plugin or real. You would need a separate audio interface for capturing plugins etc. You can search the cloud for related plugin captures.

I might be a newbie, put how to I handle the amp settings. If I capture the amp with all parameters 12 o’clock, will those parameters be adjustable like on the amp/plugin? Bass, mid, treble…

Again thanks a lot.

It would be the same as capturing a drive and or amp, it’s a moment in time. Captures have B, M and treble to modify. Some say that adjusting EQ or gain afterwards results in a different tone. You would have to experiment but yes, many have captured multiple plugins as well as amps successfully

Ideally you want to capture amp and or plugin settings at where they sound the best. From that point you won’t be able to modify the capture like you would the actual amp settings

Honestly though, I’d just search the user presets for Satriani tones. There are probably hundreds out there. Sift through and find the good ones.

but what about latency? does QC handle it? … In my experience it didnt work well

I am not sure what you mean regarding latency and captures. Can you explain with more details?

OP is trying to capture from a plugin (IK Multimedia) which has latency as any software sound processor. regular analogic amps do not have latency which is the common use for captures

Understood, I forgot we were referencing capturing via plugins. Depending on what interface is utilized with QC and how it is configured etc., there is always that possibility. I have seen hundreds of captures from Tonex, AXEFX, various plugins etc., and have used several captures of plugins. Like anything else, some are better than others.

in my case I tried to capture a plugin chain of my own for a modern high-gain distorsion and it was really bad… playing power chord is ok but the low-end when playing with palm muting was a complete disaster sounding like a robotic square signal

Gain staging is really important when using another audio interface for plugin captures but there are some great YouTube videos out there that explain the process nicely and offers some good advice on getting the best quality captures from plugins.
