New Factory Modified JCM800 - 4CM Method

I had an odd problem. When I use the 4CM method as recommended by Neural, things all work perfectly when I’m using the QC for effects only, and using the JCM800 preamp for distortion.

I was hoping to be able to use other models though on occasion. I tried to build another patch, with the pre-amp of the JCM800 selectable via the fx loop of the QC (so out QC send, in amp guitar input, out fx send of amp in FX return of QC, then QC goes out output 3 into amp FX return)..I thought that way I could engage the JCM pre-amp when I wanted, or if the QC loop was off, the signal would go straight out ouput 3 into the fx return power amp and would use other amp models into the power amp.

The problem is the volume of the amp models have to be turned WAY WAY down - like -30db+, etc - it’s like going into the fx return just has full head volume when it hits the power amp without the master volume changing it.

Is there a different way to wire this? Or is this just an issue with a serial fx loop return of the JCM being not controlled by the master volume on the JCM?

Lots of heads disable the master volume if you’re just going into the power amp. You’ll have to compensate for this with your amp model level.

For clarity, the Victory amp heads (at least the Jack and Kraken lunchbox heads) master volume that works even if you’re going right into the power amp. if the master volume on most other amps is disabled, then it’ll basically be like running it at full power if you don’t adjust the volume on your model.

Bummer this is what I figured was happening. With 100 watts there it makes it pretty rough switching etc.
