Hi everyone, I’m struggling to get any usable tones from my Nano Cortex. I’m fairly new to amp modellers so I know theres probably a learning curve but all of my presets sound noticeably different from demos showcasing tones straight out of the box. I’m happy with my clean tones but as soon as I introduce any kind of overdrive, the sound has a slight distortion, regardless of how low or high I set the gain. I’m not sure how to describe it but it feels like the correct tone is there, but it’s hidden behind a small layer of fuzz/digital distortion over the top, or the sound is thin and lacks clarity, depending on the preset. I’ve added a HPF, LPF and tried to tweak the EQ as best I can but nothing seems to work. I’ve also tried some York Audio IR’s which I’ve had for a while.
I plan to use this as an audio interface but right now its just my guitar (PRS S2) straight into to Nano and then into a pair of Mackie CR4 monitors from 2018 using balanced cables. I read recently on a reddit sub that they are not flat response but I don’t know if that’s true or not, or whether that would even affect the tone this much. I’m looking at getting a pair of Yamaha HS5’s instead. Is there any other gear I should look at getting in the future as I start chasing more professional sounds?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I’m not questioning the Nano Cortex at all as I’ve seen countless videos of guys getting amazing tones from this thing, I’m just frustrated that I can’t join the fun!
Thanks for reading, sorry for being a newb!
