Morningstar IO with Expression Pedal(s?)

I’m hoping to get a MIDI controller with expression pedal setup to control the Archetype Petrucci plugin. Wondering what the general consensus would be on the Morningstar MC6 Pro with either

  1. 1 Dunlop DVP3, which I would use to either control the wah or act as a volume pedal depending on the preset. Or:

  2. 2 Dunlop DVP3s side by side, one which would act as a dedicated wah pedal and the other which would act as the dedicated volume pedal. I guess this has the advantage of being able to roll off and on the volume pedal in the same preset, but would I ever realistically need to do this?

Interested to hear everybody’s thoughts. For the Morningstar, would it work best using the USB-C to plug in to my Macbook Pro directly? I have the Focusrite 2i2 for interface.

Thanks!

Your mileage may very but I wish the quad (I know you’re dealing with plugins but similar concept) had another set of expression inputs because I have a singular expression pedal that I use for volume and wah where the toe switch switches between the two. With this set up I have to max the volume to switch to wah.

So to better answer your question, if I personally had the ability I would run two expression pedals so that I don’t have to max my volume just to turn on my wah.

Thanks! Will I get more mileage using the native USB C connection to go straight from the MC6 Pro to my Macbook (connection + power) or using a 5 DIN MIDI cable to go to an audio interface (and using a separate power supply)? Anyone encounter any issues with the USB-C connection (I watched a video on the MC8 where someone said they had issues with preset cycling - older model/USB hub).

If you haven’t dealt with Morningstar controllers before, feel free to check the Morningstar forum where I’ve shared my NDSP settings.

Regarding expression pedals, any pedal with non latching, On / On, momentary switches will do.

If you havent purchased MC6 Pro yet, if I was you I would wait for the very soon coming MC8 Pro which will be so much better than anything they currently have

Thanks so much for sharing! Do you think the hardware on the MC8 Pro will be an upgrade in addition to the space? The MC6 fits perfectly on my planned pedalboard and I’m honestly not sure I need all the switches (famous last words?).

Also re: expression pedals, I’m debating whether I should get one pedal and interchangeably use it to control wah or volume depending on the preset or just getting 2 pedals so I can control either independently at all times.

Thanks so much for sharing your settings! Super helpful.

MC8 Pro should be around the size of the current MC8.
They are talking about extra ports, Bluetooth and WiDi.
Two pedals is always better.
