Many amp captures are unusable

While WT products are quite good, I’d give that official title to Amalgam Audio. They have a very wide offering with some really nice vintage/rare gear that I haven’t found on other platforms yet.

from all the comparisons I’ve done I’d probably rank the sellers:

  1. Amalgam
  2. Boutique Tones
  3. WT/LRS/TJ

that said, the quality difference isn’t HUGE, it’s just that #1 seems to have more of the type of amps I prefer.

I’m not familiar with Amalgam but I will check them out! I try not to get too far down the third party rabbit hole because I end up with tons of patches I never use. I try to be a minimalist but I do appreciate high quality and well thought out captures. How are their scenes on their captures compared to WT?

Amalgam is great.

Neural might have some decent ones but for the most part it’s hit and miss and also they have zero descriptions as to what’s going on in the capture. To be honest, it is worth buying captures. They’re cheap enough considering how much use you get from them.

I’m fine without plug ins. I typically use my amps and pedals. The quad was the best feeling and sounding modeler at this point for me. I like the UI too. I’m sure things will continue to improve. I can’t be on a pc when I play guitar. I want to play and I can set up a sound asap. Again, I prefer the real thing but I also like gear. For me neural has done a fine job.

It wasn’t really advice but I hopped on reverb and started looking for captor x units. Usually our Memorial Day weekends are rainy nightmares but we’ve got some good weather so I don’t know if I’ll get to it this weekend but I’m going to start monkeying around with trying to capture the bassman (and my AC30). I’ll keep you updated if I get something I like

Champion! FWIW, I found out when I was shopping for Torpedo Captors that the older ones don’t have ‘reactive’ screen printed on them, but they’re identical to the newer ones, they just realised that ‘reactive load’ is what people want to see when buying these things. I paid £130 for mine as new, in box.
