Is this a typical tone or is it a little muffled?

I am completely new to the plugin world and have been trying out Archetype Nolly. Though I do like the sound, it is not close to the demo at all.
Here’s my setup:

  • Schecter PT Special
  • Scarlett 2i2 connected
  • 2020 MacBook Pro
  • Reaper
  • DT 990 Pro 250 OHM Headphones

The recording is played with the default preset of Nolly. Is this tone what I should be expecting? The clean tones sound great to me but the distortion sounds muffled. If this is normal, would buying an EQ plugin like FabFilter help me get a cleaner distortion like what I hear from Youtube players?

Hey welcome to NDSP! The default setting is a general use “welcome to the plugin” sound but its not meant to sound like the advertisement demo. You can check out the artist presets in the drop down window, join our discord server to find other presets made by users, and of course, always try making your own.

Because of variances between playing technique, strings, and guitars, a “perfect” match will be tough to get but you should be able to get pretty close.
