@DaniBlix I am also struggling to find the right case. I have my QC mounted on a Temple Audio Solo 18. I was looking at either the Pelican 1510 or the Nanuk version (935). It would be a really tight fit because the wheel wells and handle take up space inside the bottom of the case.
Have you tried fitting your pedalboard inside your Pelican 1510? Would you need to flip it over so that it sits inside the wheel wells?
I used my old rock board wooden case and DIY built some walls/seperators into it. It’s not plastic and therefore not necessarily lightweight but IMO it’s worth the extra weight for getting everything (apart from my basses) stuffed into it I need for a gig. The upper right compartment has three levels and also holds my IEMs etc
I’m currently using a Line6 G50. It’s mounted underneath the board yes. I additionally routed the antenna connections to the side panels of the board because I wanted to avoid a potential loss of wireless signal range.
The second wireless unit you can see in the picture is my IEM receiver.
Checking in here to see if you ever found a hard case for your Solo 18? I’m scaling down to a Solo 18 and want to get a smaller, durable, and lightweight case (that’s also weatherproof for Seattle, WA rainy season). I have a Pelican case for my Duo 17 so I’d like to keep it Pelican too since that case is over 15 years old and no issues at all.
You could look at a riffle case… I used one for my headrush when I had it it was large but had sturdy casters several handles and very strong and waterproof worked a treat this it b4 I covered the foam with a plush lining
From what I can tell, the Pelican 1510, Pelican 1535, and Nanuk 935 are all fairly similar in terms of internal dimensions. They are all roller cases that meet carry-on size requirements, and in all cases the wheel wells and handle cut-out protrude into the interior space.
You can compare dimensions for Nanuk cases here, and for Pelican cases here. Pelican also has a website here where you can design custom foam inserts. That is where I tried to design one for my QC + Solo 18 board and realized that it doesn’t quite fit unless I flip it upside down. Same thing for the Nanuk 935; I was able to get Nanuk to send me a STEP file with the 3D surface geometry. I am happy to share it if any wants to play around in CAD.
TL;DR: Pelican 1510, Pelican 1535, or Nanuk 935 could work if you are willing to place your pedalboard in upside down.
After watching lots of online reviews, I am leaning towards one of the Nanuk cases. I saw that Amazon had decent prices and free returns on these, so I decided to order three different possibilities:
Nanuk 935 Carry-on roller, 20.5" x 11.3" x 7.5" interior (roughly similar to Pelican 1510)
Nanuk 940 standard case (no wheels), 20" x 14" x 8" interior (roughly between a Pelican 1550 and 1600)
Nanuk 950 large roller (checked bag), 20.5" x 15.3" x 10.1" interior (roughly similar to Pelican 1560)
I am still waiting on the 940 to arrive, but the 935 and 950 arrived today and I was able to take some photos with my Solo 18 board. As you can see in the photos, the Nanuk 935 is almost a perfect fit except that the wheel wells and handle cut-out protrude into the case. The only way to make this work is to put my pedalboard in upside-down so that the QC and expression pedal nestle in between those features and the widest portion (the Solo 18 board) sits higher up in the case. I’m not sure if I like this; when the case is laying flat the weight would be on the QC itself. I could create a larger pocket so that the QC is dangling by the mounts, but still not ideal. However, the idea of having a super-compact roller that meets airline carry-on allowances is appealing.
The Nanuk 950 can easily accommodate the Solo 18 right side up, along with cables and other accessories. It’s just big and would need to go in checked baggage if I travel with it.
The Nanuk 940 meets carry on requirements for most airlines. It’s a great size since it does not have wheels or other features impinging on the internal space. I’ll be able to try it out on Thursday. The only downside is I would be lugging it; no wheels.
I bought this one for the QC… Peli case here is triple the price nearly… Slight differences that’s all… They do another similar one with wheels and long handle…still half the price
That’s a very neat board and set up. Just out of interest what’s the clear cover for the quad…I’ve seen a few different ones, but that actually looks like it fits
I’m pretty satisfied with its fit and quality. Bought and installed in the first few weeks of owning the QC around two years ago. Best part about it IMO is that the removable screen protector is held down by magnets - way better than some flimsy hinges a lot of the other covers/shields have. And of course that you don’t have to use any glue or double sided tape to install it, just drop it on the QC, screw (no tools needed, hand tight is enough) it down onto two of the switch posts of the QC and of you go.
I ended up pulling the trigger on a Pelican Air 1535. It should be here in a few days. I’ll try to grab some pics once I have it built out and ready. I have Pelican cases for my other gear and another pedalboard, and they’ve withstood quite a bit of hell on the road, so I definitely have the brand trust there with them.
An update here: The Pelican Air 1535 came in today, and it’s a perfect fit for the Temple Solo 18. When closing the lid you can feel the top foam compress just a little bit, but that’s not a concern, and is honestly preferred so it doesn’t move around while in transit. I’m going to cut the bottom foam for some cable storage, but will have to find a sharper blade than what I have to do that since the bottom foam isn’t pick and pluck style.
