Yes, you can put an external compressor before the QC. Just keep an eye on the input level of the QC. Adjust the output of the compressor to keep everything at a safe level.
The QC has comps; try those before complicating your rig. Just my opinion, of course, but you may find you don’t need external pedals.
Thanks, It’s a limiter I’ve always used for stopping the spikes when I’m recording.
It is OK. I run my guitars thru a Channel strip (Art Prochannel 2) prior to hitting the A/D converter on the front end of the QC. I play a lot of hollow body guitars with varied degree of outputs from the pickups and this allows me to dial in that level going to the QC and all the volumes are the same across all my guitars. It also allows me to EQ the guitars as some of my guitars can be bass heavy compared to others. It saves me a ton of time programming patches for specific guitars.
Thanks
That’s why I’ve always used a Limiter/Comp before my previous amp modellers (like the healix).
It means I haven’t got a peaky recording because of my rubbish playing.
I have a Cali76 in front of my QC, but not because the QC doesn’t have any decent compression on board. I just really love the colouration I get.
I do also run an external delay and reverb in an FX loop, and that is because I think they sound a lot better than anything I can do on board the QC.
Thanks I’ll have a look at one of those.
I run a compressor before my QC also, I only play bass and I this one old Maxon bass compressor just makes everything feel better for my sound, takes something out of the sound and adds something in
I use a a Behringer CL9 for my bass input to calm everything down
