Pressing footswitches A + E simultaneously to trigger gig view seems risky IMO.
Your proposed method of switching to Gig View this way could be dangerous: a slight misstep might trigger preset A and/or E instead. That’s the last thing you’d want happening live on stage. The people I know that own a QC generally don’t like to have to press multiple footswitches for exactly this reason.
Since every other switch already has a critical function tied to sound, I’d suggest a safer alternative: extend the functionality of the tuner footswitch.
Single press the tuner footswitch → a screen appears asking what you’d like to see:
Tuner
Tempo screen
Gig view
Grid view
I/O settings
Looper X
Switch mode (preset/scene/hybrid)
etc…
You can make your selection using the footswitches A-H
Advantages:
No-risk option → no possible preset switches etc
All current functionality stays the same
Press and hold shows tuner directly and mutes the signal
Multiple taps shows the tap tempo screen and allows to set tempo
Possibility to engage LooperX (even if it is not on the preset as a block) → As far as I know there is no way to engage the Looper X at the moment without using the touch screen. I might be wrong though!?
Actually, my need is to choose when to show the grid, when to show the scene mode without swiping up but via a footswitch (if I am playing I cannot take my hands off)
I’m only pointing out that these are related. I agree that toggling Gig View without swiping up is useful.
Ultimately, the bigger goal is to be able to reorder the QC’s footswitches to do anything that users want. Highly requested feature, but it’s been so long with very little movement in that direction that a lot of folks have given up talking about it.
Since there’s been no indication that we’ll see expanded switching functionalities it’s worth exploring the workarounds. Probably the most simple way to add that function is with the midi-loopback jumper hack where you can assign that screen to open via footswitch or XP by just connecting the QC midi to itself with one cable. The more expensive route is to use an external midi controller
