Feature request - Compressor Sidechain with EQ/Filter

Hi, been trying Quad Cortex with synths. Liking much the compressors with sidechains to have synths ducking when other one is playing. Would be ultra cool if there would be filter/EQ shape to set how the sidechain will affect the sounds. Cut only lows away, mids or highs. Similar to compressor sidechain in digitakt by elektron.

Not sure if its already possible to do this by altering audio with filters and EQs before reading it in sidehain, but with limited rows it not very usable if having 3-4 synths connected to quad cortex.

There might be a way to do this, depending on your situation…

You are plugging in 3-4 synths into the QC at once? If so, I’m assuming you’re using mono for each of them, and that each one is using a row in the grid by itself.

You could probably have a filter in each row, going into a compressor whose sidechain is activated by the output of a different filter elsewhere. Then you could use Scenes to switch between them. Something like,

Scene A – Row 1 synth:

  • Row 1 filter off
  • Row 1 compressor on
  • Row 2 filter on
  • Row 1 sidechain set to read compressor input of Row 2 (or the output of the filter of Row 2)

Scene B – Row 2 synth:

  • Row 2 filter off
  • Row 2 compressor on
  • Row 1 filter on
  • Row 2 sidechain set to read compressor input of Row 1 (or the output of the filter of Row 1)

In this way, you could set up multiple compressors to react to the filter of something else. The only problem is that you would be stuck with one of the synths actively being filtered.

Thank you, will need to try this. Only started connecting synths to QC last night (mostly playing guitar). Scenes will allow nice presets. Probably using mono for synths unless having one as stereo. Summit or Polybrute as main synth and OB6 as third.

Would this be achieved by a side-chained multiband compressor? Only the band that is triggered on the side chain compresses the input. There is a request for multiband compressors, but it would have to be implemented with side-chains to achieve this: Multiband Compressor

Hmm… I am not sure I understand this proposal, but one thing that needs to be taken into account is that you can only side-chain from blocks that came “before”. So, for example, you cannot use a block in Row 2 as the side-chain of a compressor/gate in Row1.

I’ve never heard this before. I’ll test it out.

Added vote for that multiband compressor. Sounds like it would do the trick.

Just to be clear about multiband compression:

“I want to compress the bass of signal A based on a sidechain input from signal B.”
Perfectly fine to use multiband comp. for this.

“I want to compress signal A based on a sidechain input of the bass only from signal B.”
This would typically require a separate mix bus in a DAW in order to filter what you want from signal B, then set the compressor’s sidechain input to that.

I interpreted this as the latter of my two examples above. I hope this makes sense.

Sounds cool! Would you mind sharing a preset when you found the settings you like, please?

I try to upload presets if getting some cool results. So far very lost with compressor sidechain, but filter with sidechain is much fun. Sequence melody affecting pad.
