CME Widi Master with QC?

Maybe a stupid question, but does it work with the Qc mini

Great! Out of interest, what was the problem?

No such thing as a stupid question, in fact I’ve been wondering the same; you can get TRS WIDI adaptors, the only issue is they’re not quite such a neat solution as the 5 PIN WIDI on the full size QC, which sits nicely on the back of the QC. With the TRS WIDI you have more wires, and bits hanging out the back. I don’t know yet if anyone makes a solid TRS WIDI dongle that plugs in without wires.

The main question regarding the QC Mini is whether the TRS MIDI sockets will provide power to the dongle, like the 5-pin MIDI sockets do on the QC Maxi (my name for the full size QC )

That is my main concern too. The mini is beautiful on a desk, so a wireless connection to footswitches on the ground is very important for this scenario .

That would be my dream setup in the studio.

Mini on a desk. 8 Footswitches and an expression pedal on the floor

The USB module and the Midi connector kept the connection group, but the USB one did not jump into the Master state because somehow was still connected to my phone. By this both modules was in Slave state and had to remove the connection from my phone. After the removal the USB got the Master indicator and started to work as expected. Funny enough I found another strange thing (BUG?) if I set the USB module as sender and also receiver in my DAW then none of the transaction is working. If I set it for only send or only receive there is no problem.

I would even consider the Widi jack to be an advantage. The master protrudes quite far to the rear. Depending on how and where you mount your QC or Mini, this can either solve space problems or mean that you have to unplug the Widi master during transport so that it doesn’t break off in your bag.

To the power qustion. If the trs jacks are midi compliant, the midi out will have power. If not, you can power the Jack via usb-c

I asked the support and they told me the 3,5 midi outs don’t provide power. I ordered a mini anyway to try it out. It’s just too good for a desk interface. Delivery should be in the coming two weeks

On the OG QC the Widi jack works great, plugged into the midi ports

Short Update. The widi jack works without extra power on the QCs 3,5 Midi Plugs. Just in case anyone wants to use it. There is no extra usbc power needed.

I wrote he support and they told me, it’s not designed to provide power and they recommend using an extra usbc power connection to the widi jack. It was very stable, but I don’t know, if it can cause problems now…

Hi - can you just confirm, you’re saying the TRS Midi on the QC Mini DOES provide power?

Yes, but Neural support wrote me, that it is not designed for it, to provide it with power and that it is not tested. So they advice to power the WME with usb c

Sure, but if it works, it works, right?!
