You can set the loop to record as soon as you press the Record Footswitch, OR when it detects a sound - you can choose, on the Parameters menu within the Looper X.
As for loops being stored between presets, yes, a loop will carry on playing across to any other preset that has a Looper X on the grid. You’ll need to experiment with the Looper position on the Parameters menu…
