Clarification: BANK slots hold “only” Neural Captures, correct?

Okay, seems like the deeper I dive into understanding the hardware, firmware, and software, the more convoluted everything seems. So I need some clarification in regard to BANKS. Here’s what I do know: There are 5 BANKS and each BANK contains 5 slots, for a total of 25 BANK slots. I originally thought that a BANK Slot held both a Neural Capture and IR…but that’s not correct is it?

Here’s what I’m not quite clear about:

  1. Each BANK slot holds “only” a single Factory/User Neural Capture and nothing more.

  2. BANK slots do not contain any IRs.

  3. In order to even use a Neural Capture in a PRESET, that capture “has to” reside in one of the 25 BANK Slots…

  4. UPDATE: So as was explained to me by another user, any Neural Captures can be used in Presets, just as long as they’ve been downloaded into the unit. The user can then choose to overwrite one of the 25 BANK slots or not.

  5. If you select a Preset and decide you want to change its Neural Capture, after selecting another Factory/User Capture, then saving the Preset, the new Capture you selected overwrites the Capture previously saved in that BANK Slot.

  6. On the NANO, we have 64 Preset Slots. And each of those 64 Presets are created by (omitting) or selecting 1 Capture from out of the 25 Bank Slot Captures we have.

  7. Okay, so let’s say that those 25 BANK Slots each contain just an Amp Head Capture. In this scenario, we can create our 64 Presets from 1 Amp Head Capture out of the total of 25 currently saved. But we can select a Cab IR from a total of 256 User IRs or 10 Factory IRs.

Hi, how are you? First of all, I highly recommend reading the manual. It’s really helpful and clarifies many doubts, including the ones you have here. I think it’s also part of learning how to use this equipment.

On the other hand, if I understand your question correctly, the answer is that you can download or create your own capture of just the amplifier head (without the cabinet, so you’ll need to load an IR), or with the cabinet simulation included. In the latter case, you wouldn’t need to load an IR into the corresponding slot, whether it’s one of the factory presets or one you upload to your cloud storage. However, you can’t use that slot for any other effect or capture.
You don’t need to have the neural capture you want to use assigned to one of the 25 available slots. If you have it downloaded, you can select it from the library, and it will be assigned to the preset where you want to use it. Otherwise, you can leave it in one of those slots, replacing one of the factory-assigned ones.

Regarding your last question, you can create as many presets as your available slots allow. You can do this using the same screenshot and any variations you configure, or with different screenshots—as many as you like. As I mentioned, you don’t necessarily need to have them saved in one of the 25 available slots. If it’s not there, the preset will use it from your library. Again, I suggest you consult the manual; there’s a lot of this information. I hope this helps. Best regards!

Greetings, thanks for your reply. I’ve read the manual and watched video tutorials and while I understand much about the unit, I find the way in which the Cortex Cloud app integrates with the hardware to be very non-intuitive. I think part of my problem is that when reading or watching tutorials about the Nano, you’re shown how to do something but with no explanation of why it’s done that way. I comprehend more each day that I spend with the unit. So we’ll see.

Yes, I totally agree that managing screenshots is a bit confusing and sometimes it gets all mixed up with downloaded screenshots, factory screenshots, library screenshots, etc., but I think it’s not too difficult to figure out how it works.
